Thanks to Lutz and David for all the info on the Umwelt- Plackette it has been most helpful.

It is such a shame other people have hijacked the Post to make a big political topic out of what Lutz posted to help those of us who like visiting Germany and the rest of Europe. After all what is 15 euro's for the lifetime of you owning the car, you could save that when you buy your first tankful of Diesel or trolly full of groceries in Germany rather than buying it in this highly taxed country. The Umwelt-Plakette is the only payment you have to make to use Germany's roads unlike a lot of Countries that charge ridiculous prices for us to use their roads, ie France, Italy and Spain.

My Umwelt-Plakette has arrived in the post today. Not bad considering it was ordered on the 30th December and we have had New Year inbetween. Ver simple way of obtaining one. Thanks to Lutz for posting the link. Half the price of the original link. All I need now is a tax disc holder as the disc is about the same size as a UK road tax disc.

I would have to disagree with Lutz about the reason to send the V5 registration document to Germany. All the V5 shows is the make, model, and emmission of vehicle. Such information is easily available from the manufacturer's web site or from that of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders or the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency, both in the UK.

Maybe other European states show more detail on their registration documents, but not the UK. I still think this is typical German bureaucracy - again!

The manufacturers website is rarely absolutely up to date and certainly wouldn't give details of VIN breakpoints for changes during a model run. I doubt whether the SMMT has this information either. The DVLA should have the same information on file that is shown on the V5c certificate, but it's easier for the T

Was your 2006 Sorento a petrol or a diesel? Virtually all petrol engined cars built since 1993 get a green sticker. With diesels it's different. Only engines that fulfil Euro 4 requirements or better get a green one. Yellow is for Euro 3 and red for Euro 2.
