You can have double cover and choose which to use - for decades my new cars have had breakdown recovery as part of the warranty but I've always maintained my CC Mayday cover for the caravan - on one occasion my Hyundai needed recovering to the dealer because of an immobiliser fault, the Hyundai cover was by the RAC but they quoted a 6 hour wait for a patrol and then further delay for a flatbed as a 4wd automatic can't be towed - so I called Mayday (Green Flag) who were there within the hour with a flatbed.
Yes I understand you can choose which one to use at the point of the first call, I'm asking about a case when I'm towed to a garage by Volvo Assistance and deal with the 2nd cover after

LV(Britannia Rescue) have a good reputation, and there’s also Green Flag who provide Mayday and you wouldn’t need to be a member of the CMHC.

But in your case where clearly you want a mix and match with as much Volvo Assist as possible I see no alternative other than to look at various T&Cs and policy details from other providers.

Me, when I had a XC70 I just bit the bullet and had Red Pennant, as the last thing I wanted when things go awry is some irk in UK telling you that’s not how it works.

I think you would need to ring and ask how they would deal with this situation. If you have double cover as in this example the insurers would have to split the claim between them, you do not have the option of choosing which to se although whoever you notify would have to deal first and ask the other for a contribution later. In practice I would use the specialist policy rather than the Volvo one as they can deal with both the car and caravan at once. with them able to move both bits to different locations as needed.

Instead of the Volvo Assistance we used Mayday as easier and simpler even though it costs us extra.
