The new tug has got an extended tow bar and the socket is further back, may have to extend so what would in your opinion would be the best way.

1. Rewire from caravan and lengthen the lead?

2. Rewire the car?

3. Buy a extension lead (if availible)?

4. Buy a socket and plug, fit the plug to the tow ball with a bracket, small lead with plug on and plug into existing socket, this method would obviously have more connections but would the 13 pin euro plug be better than say the older 7 pin types, oh and this would probably be the easiest and cheapest,

The 13 Pin plug and socket is far superior to the two 7 Pin system.
I would make up a short extension as per your last option as it will do the job with least amount of messing about with either the car or van.
Hopefully the lead on your van will reach anyway without any modifications

I think Damian is right but as an alternative and last resort rewire from the van. This is how your old mate Deli Dave did his . You can then have jut the right length as well. B)
