Hi Chelsea,

The biggest problem for you and yours is DISTANCE!If you have the time as we do ( retired ) we can just do easy stages and enjoy the trip.Usually between 3 /4 weeks,but of course you have to go back to work and time is not on your side.

We took just over 3 weeks in May to tour the very north of Scotland which was so enjoyable and there are places which I haven't seen yet so am busy planning next year's trip!!It's laughable to think that in Sept.we shall be in your neck of the woods and you will be in mine )

Hello Maureen,

We would love to tour more and go further up, the furthest we have been is Ullapool.

Our 1st trip to Scotland about 5 years ago we went to Loch Shuna near Oban, then the last 3 years we have been staying in the Kintail/Lochalsh area. This year we are in the same cottage...it backs onto LochAlsh with a deck at the bottom of the garden so hubby can fish and I make bacon butties and we sit and watch the otters and seals.....absolute heaven!

We plan to visit Loch Maree this year - have you been there?

We take the dog and break our journey from Devon at a services motel at Abington for 1 night, we then continue the next day to our cottage and we stop on the way back in Cumbria...its not too bad.

Did you go to Cape Wrath?...hubby goes on about he'd like to visit...just think its the name that is inticing him there...im not even sure what is at Cape Wrath

The thing with Scotland, to us its like another world, I have a very stressful job at the airport and I need a relaxing holiday and hubby has a physical job - so we both come home totally revitalised.

We may pass you on the road going up!

The holiday cottage sounds wonderful......have you been to Plockton in your travels ? A beautiful little village.

We were at the Club site last year ( Kinlochewe ) by Loch Maree.A beautiful spot,but we thought that the facilities on site were below normal Club standards.Wrote a letter of complaint when we got home .Refurbishment is on the cards but who knows when????

We drove up from Morvich on the A890,mostly single track but as you know the roads aren't busy anyway.From Achnasheen on the A832 there was a road building project which has been ongoing for a few years.It was a bit hairy in places before reaching Kinlochewe but might be finished now.

By the way,I have changed my name to Lady M,as another Maureen keeps popping up ,and have decided that the upper classes are for me. ) )

Do you have a big caravan LM?...just wondering, im a little anxious touring the highlands if we do it next year in the van, hubby is well keen,...he says if buses and lorries do it on those roads then why cant he

Chelsea,

We have a Pageant Burgundy which is almost 23ft.and the only time it was really tight was when we were going to Altnaharra and met the local bin lorry coming the other way!! Just had to go very slowly and squeeze by.The biggest problem are those people who do not know how to use single track roads and just keep driving along .If only they would pull in and let you past!! As your hubby says ....if the lorries can do it ,so can you.

we have a single axle senator approx 21ft.

I think he will talk me around, I could do a planned itinerary with map and we could go futher up then, what ever we do it will be Scotland again next year whether it be cottage or van.
