Hi Mod

I know this subject has been discussed before. Please could we have a forum for CL's?

I think it would be really useful and informative.

Thanks

Good idea, we want to use CL's but there is so little info and I dont want to drive miles with the van to find you are stuck in crap hole for a week.

Recommendations, questions and comments would help us make the right informed choice, until then we will stay careful, live in the safe lane and use the club sites. (the one CL we tried when we first started vanning left a lasting impression)

After having a very bad experience with a CL in Devon - could have been Cornwall- can't remember!!Lol We only use the tried and tested or recommended CL or CS.

Please lets have a forum for CLs - it would be very useful, and save a bit of money as well !!!

Sarah, this was years ago.

We booked into a pub CL at St. Teath - near Tintagel. It was only about half an acre, but there were already three 'vans on the site so we didn't have alot of choice for spaces. My brother also came with his van so we took up the two remaining spaces near the entrance.

We settled the children into bed, and after about quarter of an hour the CL started filling up with cars, using the site as an overspill of the pub car park!!! This was about 9.30 in the evening, we tried asking the owners of the cars to park somewhere else, but to no avail, they were'nt having it!!

In the end we got so sick of it, we stuck the children back in the car, hitched up, and spent the night in a layby up the road!! As I said, this was about twenty years ago, but from then on we have never used a CL that didn't come with recommendations or one that we have previously used.

Do'nt let it put you off Sarah, this was a one off, and hasn't ever happened since By the way, I don't think this site exists now!!

Phew, Wendy. its not the one we're going to. that sounded awful, and by the way I have stayed in Holiday cottages at St Teath so I know the pub you are going on about!

We are going to one at Launceston on a farm with fishing lakes so it should be good! :)

Is it really necessary to have a separate section? To my mind as long as any post includes the nearest town/village/county then a 'search' function would identify any sites and CL's visited in the chosen area. If the CL/CS is taken from one of the 2 main organisations networks then also include the page number as a reference.

Just trying to avoif getting things too complicated.

I would love to see a CL forum, but lets be practical how much income does PC get from CL/CS sites that advertise, and how much from the comercal sites. hence the chances of getting this forum are as remote as finding half a ton of chicken teeth.

I really agree. We would love to try at CL but have also heard lots of horror story's & not many success story's.

so, please, a new forum on CL's would be very useful.

Hi Mod

Just putting the subject to the top again. I look forward to hearing the answer to the question of having a separate forum for CL's.

Regards

In response to the reply from Ros, you have to remember that many thousands of people use CLs and have a great time. We use CLs particularly for weekend breaks and would return to all the ones we have visited. Once the kids are no longer touring with us we intend using them the majority of the time as they suit our needs perfectly.

please be brave and try a CL if you can there really isnt anything to worry about! We took the plunge at the weekend, this only being our 2nd time ever in our 1st caravan too. Apart from the awful weather we feel CL'S may be the ideal sites for us....peace/quiet/less crowds/countryside etc...just have a good search around and find one in an area that suits you and give it a go. We have already booked 2 more since coming back the weekend.

We use CL's virtually all the time. We have had one that was flamin awful but the rest have been fine. However everyone wants something different and the CC has CL's to suit everyone. Quite often we go without EHU and run simply on gas and battery and these sites tend to be very very quiet with only a couple of vans.

This year our main 2 week holiday will be on a farm CL in Devon, with electric, showers and toilets, views over the countryside to the sea and its only costing us

Oops forgot to say ...

You gotta be prepared to use your toilet and shower for all its purposes to enjoy some CL's as they are simply a field with a tap and a toilet emptying point!

Hi David

That's very kind of you. I'll take a look at the web site you recommend. Many thanks, Ros

We have been caravanning for about 20 years, and like many others startyed off using commercial sites. We went on to use CC sites, then rallies and now we tend to use only CL's. we have had one DREADFUL one, at Sandhead, Dumfries and Galloway, some years ago, the rest have been sometimes wonderful, sometimes good, and sometimes just adequate, but, hey, they are usually just the base for us to use to explore a new area. We have a couple of local favourites which we use time and again. If you are really unsure, ask for recommendations for the area you want to visit, and someone is sure to have a suggestion.

The policy is not to start a new forum if the topic is covered by another. We don't want a forum where there are so many forums it is just confusing.

In this case, CLs are covered by UK Parks and Touring.

Thanks Mod

Whilst I take this on board surely it would be more useful

than Chit Chat? You could merge that with welcome new friends.

David,Chit Chat was introduced so members could share jokes and talk about non caravan subjects away from the main Forums , it has been going for nearly a year and now runs to 42 pages. That to me would suggest it is a very useful forum.

New members also seems to be very successful as a way to introduce yourself and in its short life has reached 6 pages.

UK Parks would seem the Logical place to post about CLs so I see no reason to change.
