All cars with start stop function require different batteries because of the start stop, when the battery gets a few years old the stop start will firstly work sometimes but not every time it would normally, eventually you will be able to turn the engine over as normal but you get no start stop function at all, when you reach that point you will find that out of the blue you’ll park up and next time you come to start the car it will be dead as a dodo, all start stop batteries are much more expensive, up to the individual as to whether you save enough money on fuel to still be better off and also it’s less polluting when stationary and the engine is off.

My stop-start has been turned off since I bought the car when new - it gets an AGM battery as OE partly because stop-start is standard across the range but also because the battery is inside the cabin, under the passenger seat - wouldn't want acid leaking out in a roll-over accident.

The Jeep has the AGM battery under the passenger side.

**Update**

Took car to local dealer(not Hyundai)and had battery tested.
All ok,but they didn't know why "stop/start"wasn't working.
Not a big problem as I usually switch off that facility anyway.

I have however been thinking of changing the Santa fe for something more fuel efficient when not towing.
Due to work commitments,we only go away for a total of 3 weeks(maybe the odd weekend)a year.
That leaves about 48 weeks a year of lowish mpg figures(26-30)around town, solo.
I know its heavy,4 wd. and an auto.
Excellent towcar though with 7 seats, self levelling suspension and a huge boot(even more so with the 2nd row of seats down).
I'm going to hang on to it over the winter, but come spring,I think I'm going to change it.
I paid £15,500 for it 2 years ago and was browsing the "Cinch" website (where after entering the "honest"condition of my car),they gave me a figure of £18,900😲
Now I do understand that if I were to buy from them(and also stated in their part/ex. terms and conditions),this figure may drop depending on condition of my car which is why I described it accurately.
Even if they reduced it to £17,000,thats still a £1,500 increase in what I paid for it.
I'm thinking of the Volvo XC 60
2wd.around a 16 plate.
Anyone tow with one or have any dealings with "Cinch"?
The reviews on them look very good.

Cinch and Cazoo seem to be getting good reviews from the motoring pundits. I’ve had two cars bought unseen. One from Ford Direct the other ex Hertz. Make sure you are fully okay in an XC60 by looking and driving one from a dealership. They may even surprise you re a deal. Never know.

The above raises an interesting question regarding insurance. If you insured the vehicle for i.e. £15000, but it is actually worth £18000 and you make a claim, it is unlikely that the insurance will pay more than you insure for although they are quick to offer to lower price. The value of our Jeep has also increased by about £3000 and I am wondering if it is worthwhile increasing the amount it is insured for even though the premium will increase?

We are mid term into our car insurance and until this thread started I was not aware that the prices had gone up so I checked and that is when I realised I was now under insured on the Jeep.

Hi Mate ,
Regarding the mpg situation, i drive a santa fe 2014 awd manual average 37mpg and the wife has a xc60 2016 auto awd average 32 mpg so i would stick to the santa fe if i were you.
i know models and years are different etc but just thought i would mention it .

Good luck in getting a new motor. (y)

Thanks Fraseb.
Yes I was looking at the 2wd Volvo which (according to some websites)give a figure of approx.45 mpg urban driving.
Of course this varies a great deal once your actually out on the road in it.
Going to keep the Santa fe till next spring and decide what to do then.
👍

Have a look at the Honest John website. It has a running log of “ real world” mpg input by car owners.
However it often comes down to how it’s driven and where it’s driven. I can get 43-44mpg from my Subaru on a trip to south wales. That’s mainly motorway. But a recent trip to Salisbury at lower speeds gave 38 mpg. Shorter trips….. I find too painful to contemplate, so take the 1.25 Rio instead.

The majority of U.K. motor policies state they will settle a total loss on the current market value. Agreed value policies are available, usually on specialist collector type cars. Best check with your Insurer if in doubt.

I think Honest John gives a figure of about 73% of the manufacturers claimed mpg figures.

Yes I do love the auto but part of me wishes I had gone for the manual 2 years ago to squeeze more mpg from it.

It’s often the case that real mpg is less than official mpg and your would have been tested against the now obsolete test schedule.

Decided to purchase a new battery for the Hyundai but was wondering if I can fit this myself.
A couple of websites I've visited say as its a "Stop/Start",it has to be programmed into the cars computer system.
Anyone know if this is correct?
Read the handbook !
