Fitting fridge vent

Came back from our last trip to find that the top fridge vent had disappeared somewhere down the A1/M25. I ordered a replacement which has now arrived. The poorly drawn instruction pictures infer that some sort of sealant or glue is applied once the basic frame has been screwed in. Can anyone tell me if it is sealant or glue? and what make would you recommend?

If the whole vent has gone and you are replacing a complete unit directly on to the wall of the van, use a sealant such as IDL99.

Put a bead completely around the inside edge(where the screws go through) to ensure a watertight seal the full way round.

Do NOT use silicone sealant under any circumstances.

Damian,

Thanks for that. As all a bit new to this I guess that silicone sealant must have something nasty in it!

Silicone sealant can react badly with aluminium, also it is very sensitive to movement, and will lose its bond with the wall, resulting in water ingress.

IDL99 never sets and retains its sealing properties without being compromised by vibration or movement.
