Focus C Max Vs Focus

I have read some reviews really singing the praise of the C-Max for a tow-car.

Can anyone tell me why the C-Max is so good compared with say the basic Focus, or the Mondeo, or even the Galaxy.

Is it the engine pulling power, or the visibility, or the colour (no just kidding :) )

Thanks

Hi, the C-max is a mini MPV version of the focus as is the new Galaxy/S-max an MPV version of the Mondeo, MPV's are designed to be stable at motorway speeds whilst carrying a relatively high load compared to their saloon versions, the suspension design and stiffness that allows them to do this, also lends itself towards being a stable towcar.

Whilst many saloon and estate cars can be seen towing a caravan with tails on the ground and nose in the air, I have never seen an MPV like this, even with two adults, two kids, our ski gear, luggage and 200 bottles of wine in the back of our Sharan it was lower than normal but nowhere near on it's a*se

We got a C-max and yes it is a good tow but can not say where it is better than other ford as we have only towed with.

We got the 2 liter tdc one.

It been that good we are get a new soon to rey place it.

The Mondeo will only pull the same as the C-max as we got.

Hi, I tow a 2005 Bailey Ranger 510/4L with a 1.8 TdC1 Zetec C-Max. With the highish kerbweight (1506kg in this case), a firm but comfortable ride and short overhangs it is a really stable towcar. I do use an Al-ko 3004 stabiliser. As with lots of cars of this type, removing the rear seats makes for a cavernous load carrier so you can put lots of stuff in the car, reducing the towcar / caravan weight ratio still further, although we do have a Caravanstore hanging on the awning rail which seems to make no difference. the 1.8 diesel is lively solo and more than adequate towing. Downside? The Conti SportContact tyres lasted 13000 miles only on the front, with under 1000 of that with the 'van on the back. Totally reliable, one small rattle from the front n/s door and some of the pins in the factory fit fixed bar 13-pin weren't connected, sorted by local dealer quickly. Hope this helps, Mike
