ford c max towbar.

as any body got a c max with parking sensors fitted and a flange towbar. will i need to fit detachable bar? .

what mpg do you get towing, will be pulling about 1400 kgs?

fitted with 16 tdci engine and manuel gear box.

Hi Sean,

Are you sure?

The Focus C Max (1.6 Duratorq) has an absolute maximum trailer weight of 1300kg - and that's a low loader trailer not a high centre of gravity load like a caravan.

So you'll be at least 100 kg above the legal maximum (points on licence type of legal), and about 250kg above the sensible maximum caravan weight

Hi Sean,

I haven't got the paking sensorsbut I have the next best thing - a fixed bar!We have the 1.8 TdCi and towing 1250 with two people and some other stuff in the car we get 30 -32mpg. Keep an eye on the front tyre wear though, my car only managed 13000 miles on it's fron Continentals although they were worn evenly. I used the acceleration butdon't ever spin the wheels. Mike

Hi Sean

We got a C-max 2.0 tdci but it as not got parking sensors.

It pulls the van very well and we get the same mpg as Mike.

We tow 1300 kg two adults and tow kids and a mad dog called Bess..

Have not notes about the front tyre wear.

We have been that happy with how the c-max as pull other the last three year that we are get a new one.

Hi there I have a c-max and touchwood it has been a great towcar.I have the 2.0tdci zetec model and it pulls my Bailey 470/4 with no problems at all.I had a fixed towbar fitted this does affect my reversing sensors , but you only reverse the caravan for short distances so this doesnt aggravate you much at all.The sensors dont pick up the towbar when reversing solo which is the most important aspect.

I hope this helps cheers Mike

I have had sensors on my last 2 Mondeo's one with fixed and one detachable.Sensors dont pick the bar up I presume because the bar doesn't move. The worst thing about sensors and Fords is the beeping from both your sensors, seatbelt reminder and your reversing aid ( the wife ) !!!!!! or similar

Hi Sean,

I have a 2.0 petrol zetec auto but no sensors,a fixed towbar and it is a brilliant tow car. We tow an ABI brooklyn 490/5.It is a bit sore on petrol but worth it as I am disabled and the auto is so easy to drive.
