My normal sources for towing information do not list the Ford Cougar.
This could just be a shortcoming of my data base, or, and I think this is more likely, that Ford have not rated the Cougar's tow limit as Zero which means it is not apporved to tow anything.

If you don't have any positive input in the subject then please don't post as clearly you now nothing a bought the Cugar or its towing capacities or limits. It is rated to tow I wanted to hear from people who use this car for towing.
Daniel Surely the Cougar has been out of production for many years, it was only a glorified Mondeo two door "sport coupe" sharing petrol engines and the donors floor pan.
Your unlikely to find many people who have towed with the car.
With it's Mondeo pedigree I would be asking for the experience of owners of those petrol cars from that era.
It was an OK car to drive car but I've never towed with one.

What model of Cougar are you talking about?
According to Daily Telegraph's Honest John the weights ranged between 1291 - 1342kgs.
What do you want to tow?
I suspect it must be a bit like my old Vauxhall Calibra. I only ever towed a lightweight trailer so can't comment on the caravan aspect.
Incidentally John L is a very helpful guy on this forum and imho did not deserve the rather crass remark you made to him.

After a comment like that, I would wait some time before you come here again asking for help. Have you tried looking in the car handbook, that should tell you how much it can tow (it will also assist you in how to spell the car).

Daniel, after your blast at John, I'm not sure that I dare comment, but you haven't yet explained whether you mean a "Cougar", which was a sort of lashed up Mondeo, or a new "KUGA", which appears to be ....a lashed up Mondeo.

Secondly can you provide more details as to the model as there are 3 , a 2lt 16v , 2.5V6 (manual) and 2.5V6 (Auto).
I once had the (mis)fortune to be loaned a 2.5V6. I drove the car a total of 20 miles - home and back to work - and it stayed on the works car park for the next 3 weeks till Ford collected it.
It was a dog awful car to drive unless you're into wheel spinning and rear end drifting around Asda's car park. It just didn't have any grip at all.
Wouldn't float my boat if I were after a coupe of this era.

I sense that my response upset you, It certainly was not my intention to do so if I did.
It seems the Cougar does have a specified trailer MTPLM as Lutz has stated, I am sorry my advice was flawed, but I can confirm it does not appear in the database I tend to use.
However I do defend my response, The Cougar was sold as a performance sportster, and many such cars may have oodles of power, Such cars do not appear in my database when they have no towing allowance, and I made an assumption that the Cougars omission was likely to indicate a Zero towing allowance.
As I frequently point out it is better to get technical information direct from the vehicles data plate or the manufacturer, rather than to rely on sites such as this they do sometimes have errors.
Now it was not clear if you own or intended to purchase a Cougar. If you were thinking of purchasing, then it would be an unwise to consider a model that was not approved for towing, hence my response.
Thank you all of you who jumped to my defence, I am flattered, and whilst no one likes rejection, I did not take Daniels reply to heart. We are all entitled to our own opinions, and that will from time to time produce conflicting points of view.

Some of us have to work for a living and don't have access to a computer, I am not going to correct my response to John L as I have not done any thing wrong I asked for some opinions on the Ford Cougar yes Cougar I did get it right first time and was given some wrong information I am not out for a slagging match just looking for some helpful information not misinformation. Hope that clears up any misunderstanding with the rest of the people on this site looking for an argument I will continue to post if you don't want to offer any advise assistance or help then that's your decision.
Just in case you cant understand the questions i am looking to see if any one has towed with this car and if so what it is like as a tow car!

Danny boy. Cougar's are not the sort of car that many caravanners would consider using.
The Cougar was considered to be a bit of an ill conceived boy racers coupe and not that good a car.
Due to that your chances of finding somebody with experience of it as a caravan tow car is probably close to zero.

with regards to your last post "I did spell it right first time" actually you did not.
The title of your post says Ford Couger and even in the question you spell it with an E, you then spell it correctly as Cougar.
Have you ever heard of the saying "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"

Personally I always thought most Germans had access to homes Lutz.
If being "homourless" is Daniel's problem Lutz he may be living in his Cougar and just be desperate to get a home behind it ;0)

If you answer my earlier post we may get a better idea of your intentions. Even with our little Halfords trailer on the back, the Calibra was struggling for grip. I suspect the Cougar will be no different.
As for work , there was no need for that sarcastic comment. I've worked for 38 years. The way pensions are today I cannot see a permanent retirement will ever be an option for most of us.

Very funny, Sadie! Daniel, I hope you don't tow with your Cougar. Aside from the fact that it doesn't appear to be approved for towing, you appear to have a severe attitude problem, and you might just pitch next to me!!!
Before you post any reply know your facts the Cougar is indeed rated to tow, I am looking for information form people in the know if you don't have any positive input then don't post. What are you implying would happen if I pitched next to you! Is that some kind of threat?
