Hi all, just wondering if someone give me some advice, my 1800, deisele ford escort has just gave up the ghost, piston rings and other thing ,s gone on it, this was the car i pulled my van without any problems, curb weight ect fine, but as said it died and going to the big metal grave yard, sob, sob?

Now in a couple of weeks im getting a ford focus, 1800 petrol, back to good old petrol , iv read on the net good reports on the focus, soild sound reliable, cheap parts ect, now two questions realy...

1) would i still be ok pulling the van with focus, still being the same engine size, 1800 cc.

2) so to the final question, has anyone got a focus and pulling there van with it and had no problems,.

Thank,s and hope to get some positive feedback with the focus.

John.

Hello John,

To be accurate you will need to check the specific load details for your proposed model of Focus. What the car can pull changes with build year, body style, and engine options.

My sources suggest that the diesel-engined versions have all been able to tow more than the petrol versions, so checking year, body option model and engine is vitally important

Hi John

We tow with a focus c-max 2.0ltr auto petrol. It is a bit sore on petrol but otherwise a brilliant tow car.

Hi John, I have been towing a couple of years now with a 1.6 05 Ford Focus petrol. I tow a Fleetwood Colchester 2 Birth, the weight shown on the vin plate being 881kg. Had no problems at all, very stable, I just have to be a little patient on "servereish" hills and use the gearbox. Have always managed to get where we are going and back. I would suggest you should be okay with your tug, depending on the weight of your van.

Depends on the age of the Focus and the size of the van - Early focuses (or is it Foci)had a towing limit of 1300kg and a nose weight limit of only 50kg. We had a 2 litre petrol and towed a 1999 Baily Ranger 510/4 (MTPLM of 1195kg)which just fell into the 85% rule but was well into Fords limit. It towed quite well although still needed a fair bit of gear changeing to keep it moving - nice and stable though. We've now upgraded the car to a 2 litre TDCi C-Max which has a towing limit of 1500kg and a bigger van - Bailey Pageaent with an MTPLM of 1420 which gives us a 93% ratio. The car will pull the van up walls if we wanted it to and will easily pull the van at over 70mph. Note though that the Ford towing limits for the various engine configurations for both the Focus & C-max (which are essentially the same vehicle underneath) vary but the diesels have higher towing limits than the petrol versions.

I tow my 2 berth Coachman Genius SE with a 1.8 Ford Focus tdci 115bhp estate. It's an 03 reg and it tows the little van like a dream - no problems with inclines at all - along the A14 this summer I rarely had to change down from fifth.

I don't fill the van too full, as it is just me and the two dogs, but I still include a heavy awning, all the pots, pans, plates, waste and clean water stuff and all the other things one needs - and there seems no prob whatsoever.
