Ford Kuga

Hi guys, wondering if anyone has towed with the new Ford Kuga yet, and if so whats it like?

Im looking to purchase one soon and the kerbweight is 1613kg, and was thinking of getting the Senator Indiana which is 1500kg, which comes in roughly as 92%

Do you think the Kuga is good for it at all fro your experiences?

cheers.

Dave

Paul, the 1500kg is the MTPLM of the Senator Indiana, not its MIRO. Therefore, David's post is correct.

This month's Caravaning magazine has a test of the Kuga and they seemed to be quite impressed. The only criticisms that they made were that the kneeroom in the back was poor, it has a relatively low payload (not towload, which is OK), and that the diesel is not available with automatic transmission (which many prefer for towing).

david, go and have a test drive in a hyundai santa fe. its the same size as the kuga but its kerb weight is 1893kg for the auto.

i have one and i tow a bailey series 6 wyoming at 1678kg so im towing at about 88%.

i dont think you can get a towbar yet for the kuga.

Thanks Jo-anne, I think the tow bars are now available as I have seen a few fitted already to some I see in the car park in work, as I work for Ford and see around 2 different ones every day.

But I think you have to order them and can take up to 8 weeks to arrive in some cases.

Loved the Wyoming van, really liked it, just a tad to heavy for the Kuga so have to go for the Indiana instead, and that still creeps into the 90's!

mikey where did you get your figures from. ive just been on what towcar and a bailey vermont and a santa fe is only 77% with a 250 payload in each and the vermont weighing 1450kg and th santa fe 1893.

i checked mine while i was there wyoming 1685kg with a 250 payload and santa fe 1893kg with a 250 payload is 88%.

can some one please confirm mine and mikeys weights please.

lutz can you help?.

mikey may be doing them on the kuga but check my wyoming anyway please.

thanks

Jo-anne, you appear to be calculating actual weight ratios. However, weight ratio is normally worked out by comparing the kerbweight of the towcar with the fully laden weight (MTPLM) of the caravan. This will result in a value that is bound to be less favourable than what you have worked out for your outfit, but that is the norm.

Hi Lutz,

Jo-anne has quoted the correct MTPLM for her Wyoming and the kerbweights right for the santa fe. Ok her mention and possible calculateion of the 250 payload is misstated but even so , somehow her ratio is correct.

Have I too got the calculation wrong? I've ignored her reference to the 250 payload and I still get 89%??

Cheers

Alan
