Hi i have come to the conclusion i want to buy a mondeo, been looking at the states and also the reveiws and they are very impressive. Seems like it gets great reveiws on driving solo and also with a caravan on it tail!
Just wondering would i be able to get a tow bar fitted to the top of the range mondeo X sport, i have seen one i really like which is in my budget but i am unsure if can tow with the car as this is one of my main reasons for buying this sort of car!
Does anyone who the states for this car? towing capacity and also nose ball weights etc??
Thanks

Hi there, not sure if our Mondeo 2.2 Ghia X (top of range) 06 plate is same spec as what you are looking at but we had to sell before we had a towbar fitted as it was a 102% match on outfit towing site (recommend 85%). Mind you our caravan is a heavy one, so check on good outfit matching site before you buy (presume you have a caravan or know weight of caravan you want?). OH much happier as bought a Sorento and it would tow a plane!

Hi Ive got a 2009 Mondeo Estate Im a Auto tec there is no reason why you can't have a bar fitted. Have a check with towright my car is a 2.0 ltr 140 brake you don't say what the van is rember the 85% rule.

We had a 06 plate Mondeo 2.2 turbo diesel,155bhp and it towed great.
Plenty of power and pretty good on fuel as well.
Kerbweight of approx.1490kg with a "Recommended"85% towing limit of about 1270kg.
Maximum towing limit of 1735kg and im not 100% sure but I think the noseweight limit was about 80kg.

I have an SMax and am sure that towbars are excluded from the Titanium X Sport option (but ok on the Titanium). I suspect that the Mondeo might have similar restrictions due to the modified bodywork on the 'Sport' option so it will be worth checking before you place an order and anticipate post delivery towbar fitting.

Hello Mr Bell

The database that I tend to use lists all the Mondeo X with unquoted limits for braked or unbraked trailers. where as all other Mondeo models do have stated limits.

For reasons that I have outlined many times before you cannot trust any third party sites as the data may be corrupted, but in this case it strongly suggests the Mondeo X models are not rated to tow anything - not even a garden trailer.

For cast-iron confirmation check with Ford themselves.

It is illegal to fit a towbar to a car where the manufacture has sets the towing limit as zero.

I had a funny feeling the titanium sport x would have been excluded for towing, i just needed to check. When looking on the net the ford mondeo titanium x models are nice enough and would be able to tow with one of them. I am debating on automatic or manual. I know i need to drive them but nice to know what people think?
Thanks for all the replys.

My Mondeo was the Titanium X and the figures I quoted were from notes I made before I purchased the vehicle and from the manafacturers handbook(not a third party site).
So the X,can tow admirably as mine did.

Hi Mr Bell
I tow a 6 berth 2007 ace celebration with a my titanium x sport and its been great, mine had a detachable factory fitted towbar when i bought it, but if you want to fit one yourself you need to cut a small piece of the rear skirt out,
Mine is a 2.2 diesal manual which i put a chip box into, and now is 220 bhp
on my 2003 mondeo i had to put spring assisters on the back but this one is fine because of the sports suspension.
I found this forum helpfull http://www.stdrivers.co.uk/forum/forum/71-titanium-x-sport-forum/
