Fractured Shower Plug hole

I have just noticed that my plughole in the shower tray on my 2005 Bailey Pageant Auvernge has fractured above the metal area. On closer inspection, it appears that the hole cut in the floor under the plug is so large that there is no support for the plug, so as we have moved in and out of the bathroom, the action of people walking on it has broken it. Any ideas on repair?

is it the plastic thats cracked?. if so then it could be repaired with a plastic welding kit then filled and polished.

Welding some plastics can be as easy as using a soldering iron along the crack, but you would need to practice first.

The best option is check out your yellow pages for companies that do car bumper repairs ans give them a call.

Thanks Phil,

It is the plastic thats cracked, right on the edge that drops into the plug hole. I will give them a try.

Many thanks

This happened to us while away in France. We went to the Kitchen area at a Supermarket (E Leclerc's)and purchased one of those stainless steel sink strainers that fit over the plughole - probably only a couple of centimeteres or so bigger in radius than the metal part of the plughole. I managed to use a hacksaw & file to remove the strainer part which then allowed the original fitting to fit nicely over the "strainer". I was then able to screw this back into the plastic pipe section under bowl to secure everything in place. Of course I used a small amount of sealant to make it all watertight and ended up with a very neat and reinforced repair that was never likely to break again - all for a few euros. I have since seen similar strainers for sale in several other kitchen type shops in UK.

Hi Stephen, I repaired ours with an ordinary weld type glue (Airfix sort). I then screwed a piece of thin ply to close up the monster hole that the van makers use. I left a cople of small holes in the ply so that I could inject expanding foam into the area.

Six months on and it's still in good condition and it's a lot stronger than the original.

Regrettably this seems to be a common problem with Bailey's of that age. We have a Pageant Majestic Series 5 and had exactly the same failure. It is not just a question of the drain itself not being supported but there is a serious lack of support for a much-too-large area around the hole. Get your heel in it whilst walking so your whole weight is on it and it don't last a second. Try what you may it (IME) is impossible to repair.

In the end we had the whole tray replaced - the tray costs a bit under

Hi,

My Abbey Vogue's shower tray cracked, on the flat just before it bends upwards towards the basin.

I'm afraid I 'gaffer taped' it (I love that stuff!) to get us by but realise (but am in financial denial) that it won't last because no matter how aware we are, we just can't avoid treading there!

Any ideas?

Kay

Hi Stephen,

I had the identical problem on my brand new Lunar Lexon (spit in the corner) two years ago. I had it repaired under warrenty. Unfortunately this was just one of several things that went wrong with my Lunar Lexon (spit again in the corner). The cold water pipe leading to the rear sink that passed behind the cooker MELTED where it was touching the back of the cooker. The cupboard doors in several places fell off in transit. And on and on and on , until I got rid of it and bought a Swift.

Fingers crossed...

Moral of the story: don't buy a L%^&* I can't even type the name any more.

Hello,

I had the same problem with the shower tray in our Abbey Vogue and I know this is a common problem as a friend with a swift also had this issue. I removed the shower tray and using a fibre glass repair kit fixed the problem (and while it was out reinforced the whole tray with fibre glass). I also fitted a support around the plug hole and replaced. Everything has been fine for the last 2 years or more. It took me around a day to do this work. Before working with fibre glass check it will not affect the tray as depending on what the tray is made off, some could melt with the chemicals. Dave

Yorkshire Caravans are the people, they can refurbish the tray and underfill with a foam so it will never go again. Ask for Stuart or Jon. They are brill with plastic welding repairs

I haven't cracket the shower tray in our caravan but did put my heal through one on a canal boat a while back when the whole drain punched through. In addition to a less than ideal support under the tray, I know that many cleaning agents will make the plastic brittle. Google will throw up quite a bit on this. We use the Thetford plastic cleaner for that reason. I'm not sure if there are others that are non damaging to plastic.
