Freelander 2 what mpg?

Hi,

what mpg do owners of the Freelander 2 diesel manual get. Often cars seem to deliver something around the 'combined ' mark when in normal use, but I saw a recent report that gave a overall mpg for the F2 diesel at 30mpg (solo)over a distance of 3 months on mixed M/A and country driving, when the 'combined' figure is nearer 38mpg.

Cheers

Hi Other Clive.

My Fl2 now that it has loosened up a bit does about 35-36 mpg on a reasonable solo run, and about 31.5 on commuting, which is mainly town/slow running.

With the caravan on the rear (max 1500kg loaded)with 4 people in the car it averaged 27.1 on a "good" run from Cornwall to Kent.

The car has still only done 7500 miles and I am finding the consumption is still gradually improving.

John.

Stuart.

No problem, I have seen a T/A Swift Conquerer on the rear of a FL2 and the outfit was sailing along almost as though the 'van wasn't there.

Hi clive,

I too find the fuel consumption figures confusing. I too have a freelander 2 which i have had for about 4 months. I could only achieve around 27MPG according to the computer, which i found disappointing. Mine has now done 8200 miles and the best i have seen is 34MPG. The best i have achieved whilst towing is around 24.3MPG.

Over two months i set it my goal to achieve what they claim in the handbook only to be disappointed. I understand that the figures they quote are in ideal situations but i feel like i have been lied to by LR as the MPG was one of the reasons i bought it.

It's not just them, their all at it. I recently saw an advert for a polo claiming 73MPG, i very much doubt any owner could achieve that!

Having said that the car is fantastic and it tows very well.

I think "ACTUAL" would be better than "combined"!

The only way to check fuel consumption accurately (unless you have specialist equipment) is to measure it from brim to brim. Even then you need two or three tankfuls. Trip computers are notoriously inaccurate - usually grossly optimistic.

p.s you also need to verify the accuracy of the mileometer over a known distance. They can be 5% out - usually optimistic again.

Hi, I agree with waht's been said re manufacturers data and raelity. The Sorento drew some bad press early on when its overall mpg was nowhere near the Combined figure, when quite a number of cars are. My wife's Mondeo diesel is virtually smakck on its Combined figure when she drives it, and I get better than the Combined figure (but don't quote me!)

Hi Clive,

Take a look at www.freel2.com for fuel consumption figures and other interesting info concerning the new LR FL2
