Hi,

We've just returned from a trip to the French Alpes. Fantastic time but we always get stressed when travelling and trying to find a site to 'overnight' at. Can anybody recommend a good road Atlas of France that includes campsites. Even if they are just marked with an abbreviation.

Our problem is we never know where we are going to stop when we set off...as an example we left Annecy at 7am heading for Chartres, just west of paris but reached there by 2pm, so was happy to carry on driving for another2 hours but we had no idea of sites close to the Autoroute.

We do have a French campsite guide as well but again this is very limited....is there a definative guide listing all municipals or maybe all sites!!

Thanks in advance for any help

There's Camping France http://www.campingfrance.com/campingenfrance.jsp?idPage=72 - on the website you can order an official guide published by Motor Press to all 11,340 campsites in France. You can also buy them in large supermarkets in France. We bought our friend one for his birthday - and they reported great success in using it - they're in France at the moment, somewhere in the Pyrenees.

The Michelin Road Atlas used to have campsite symbols for those sites which featured in their guide. It doesn't any longer, but we have an old one which we keep 'just in case'.

We always use the Caravan Club European guide book which has never let us down. Just use this with a good map such as Michelin

If you have a SatNav load french camping sites as points of interest and your problem will be solved. I did this a few years ago and it makes life very easy and more important - no stress!!
