Fridge Not Working

Hi,

My fridge does not appear to be working. Fridge mains light is on when hooked up, but not getting cold also tried the fridge on gas, piloy light on but did not appear to get cold although only tried on gas fro 30 mins. Any ideas??

Gordon, on mains it should have been getting noticebly colder after 30 minutes, but takes abot 4 hours to cool right down.

If tit was not even starting to cool then probably the mains heatr is not working and needs replacing.

As for gas, the flame you can see( if you have an observation window, newer fridges do not have them) is the burner

If that was alight then it would need about an hour to feel any real cooling.

I would suggest it needs a good service.

Thanks for the info.

Its def not working on mains as we were away this weekend and the mains power light to the fridge was on but it did not get cold. We were on a level surface.

Tomorrow I will try on gas to see if it works. Yes the flame was lit and burning blue. The van is a 2006 and been serviced each year.

Once I have discovered if it a electric fridge problem only or a electric and gas fridge problem I guess I will have to book it in for a repair.

Hi Gordon

You dont say how old your fridge is,But on my old caravan my fridge stopped working, we pulled into a service arean for a breakn and could smell a strong amonia smell, found out later it had lost its coolant, the only answer was a new fridge beingv an older model,so you might be in luck and be able to get it repaired,

Hi,

The fridge is 3yrs old, its a Dometic RM 4230. I have just tested it on gas and it is working, so I think this points towards the electric heater element, would you agree??

Hello Gordon,

I too have a Dometic fridge (5 years old) and have similar problems. I removed my fridge and connected it up on a level floor but it still didn't work. It must be some problem with the amount of gas in the system or maybe it deteriorates with age?

Have you had any luck with yours?
