Galaxy Noseweight

Hello All

Does anyone know the correct noseweight allowance for a Ford Galaxy.Carl Rodgerson in PC Mag keeps stating 115kg - but I am fairlycertain that this is incorrect. Any ideas?

I have the VW Sharan, 02 plate. If your Galaxy is of the same style, i.e. up to 2006 before the model update, when Alhambra/Sharan/Galaxy are built using mostlt the same floor plan in the Seat factory, then your max. nose weight is 85kG.

all of the galaxy sharan alhambra models have a nose weight limit of 85 kgs as dadio states.

The only exception to this is the new galaxy which is not a joint venture between ford and vw anymore and for some unknown reason ford have shot themselves in the foot and given the new galaxy very low tow limits compared to the old one and a misely 75 kg nose weight limit.

I m pretty sure you are right with 75kg(its the main reason i will not be buying one)85Kg is hard enough to maintain never mind lossing another 10 Kg.ps. I have the old Galaxay with 150 bhp and the new one only has 140 bhp

The new Ford Galaxy, like the S-Max, is based on the upcoming Mondeo platform hence the lower noseweight limit.

Re rogers comments,dont you think that has Ford shot themselves in the foot by making cars usless for towing when they had such a good reputation of making good tow cars?75Kg is way too low a noseweight for most modern caravans,or am I barking up the wrong tree?

The maximum permissible noseweight of the new Galaxy is 80kg. Considering the maximum towload of the 2.0 diesel is 1700kg, this is perhaps a bit on the low side but I wouldn't consider it useless.

Note that the 2.0 petrol is only approved to tow up to 1100kg.

Lutz, according to the CC, the new Galaxy's noseweight is only 75 kgs.

According to the towing law section of this site the minimum noseweight is 4% of the trailer weight which equates to 1875kg trailer weight for a 75kg noseweight, more than enough for the vast majority of caravans.

Although the max power of the new Galaxy/S-max 2.0 tdci is 140, the mid range power/torque is slightly better than the 150 VW engine and much quieter,

Eddie, Ford's own website quotes a 80kg noseweight limit for the new Galaxy. I would have thought that it is more reliable than data from the CC.

the ford brochure that i have infront of me now clearly states 75 kg for the nose weight, yet another classic **** up from manufacturers with misleading info.

It's hardly worth arguing about 5kg but you are right, something is amiss somewhere at Ford's.
