Now I am thinking of tackling the gas, so far fitted new gas tank to front cupboard on the 'A' frame, screwed in the regulator turned on the gas from the tank.

Found 4 taps red turned them all on under cooker, found one tap next to water heater also turned on.

Have mains electric on.

Turn on the cooker hob ring and put a lighter by ring.

Nothing, had a sniff and a listen and tried lots more times, nothing.

The red taps I have turned in line with the pipe but did try the other way.

Is there a hidden tap some place that I can not find?

Very small smell of gas from tank so pinched up pipe with spanner.

Hi Reg and Pat,

There isn't (or shouldn't be ) an extra tap anywhere, unless there is a tap somewhere close to the gas bottle itself. My post 2005 van has a tap immediately after the baulkhead fitted reg. Have a a look somewhere near the gas bottle.

The taps should be in line with the pipes that supply the devices and NOT in line with the supply pipe from the bottle.(Hope that makes sense)

Some bulkhead regulators have an isolating knob

Hi Del,

If you mean the yellow tap, that you get on the Truma regulators, then it is not an isolation tap as such, it is there for the engineer to carry out gas soundness and let by tests when servicing the caravan.

Hi Reg, you may find when the gas valve handles are in line with the pipe they are in the OFF position, so they need to be turned 90 degrees, also don't forget to remove the vent cover if you use the water heater on gas.

Reg,

You are right, generally the tap should lie in line with the pipe either side to be in the "on" position.

It can take some time for the gas to come through so try again before you start looking elsewhere.

Hello gain Reg & Pat,

I assume that you are writing about the same caravan as your other thread about the Cascade.

If so ignore many of the posts in this thread because they are referring to Bulkhead mounted regulators that became standard in 2004. Your caravan is designed for the bottle mounted regulators.

with the tank valve open and the red taps incline with off-shoot pipes from the manifold, you should have gas available to each of the appliances.

I'm not sure if this will apply to you, but some cooker hobs have a fold down lid. If the lid is not fully up, it is designed to interrupt the gas supply to the hob.

If the gas has been disconnected for any length of time, air might have got into the pipes in the caravan, This will normally purge quite quickly to the hob and space heater, but the water heater, and especially the fridge can take a few minutes to get all the air out of the pipes.

If you are not having any luck, Apart from changing Bottles all other work on h=gas systems by law must be carried out by a competent gas fitter.

This is something that happened to my van every year after the winter lay up. I now leave my cooker lid up and now the gas comes through right away.
