Dear all
As I'm sure many of you have seen, you can add a nice little picture to your Practical Caravan profile. Thing is, the picture must be 30kb or less - which is very small.

If you want a picture on your profile but don't want to spend too long editing images, I've used the shrinkpictures.com website. You simply upload an image, it shrinks it and turns it into a square that will fit the box on the site. Then you download the small version of the picture back. I've done it several times - it works and hasn't downloaded anything nasty to my computer. Click here to go there

Cheers

Hi Nigel, thanks for the info, however I don't wish to come across as a skinflint but,it would appear that it is a one-off shot and a BuyItNow or subscription site.Have you looked at the VSO Software(forum) site.It is to all intents a free to use site but you register with an identity like on any forum.

Hi Nigel

I've been trying to change my avatar, I've used the link for the avatar maker, the image is on my computer etc, etc. On PC, I type my password in on 'edit' bit, I delete the current pic and browse for my reduced size new pic, select it and Ozzy just keeps coming back.

Sooooooo glad you said that Lisa. I put a piccy in, a few words on it like Soozeeg's, but so small you couldn't read it. Managed to delete it but everytime I tried to put a different one in the first one came back. I thought it was me, so kept quiet.
thank you so much.
heads up Techies there is a problem here, Lisa and I can't both be doing it wrong.
(the above said with more confidence than may actually be the case)

Ozzy just keeps coming back - cos Sharon spends all of his *$!!@#&!! money and won't let him retire :0)

After you have selected your new avatar do you remember to press 'Save' ?

Thanks Nigel.

Parks of course Mel and I have pressed 'save' - we're women don't forget, we read instructions first then carry out the action, not the other way round like you blokes do.

Ooooh, I don't like Sharon. I think there's either a glitch in the system on here or Mr Crowley is interferring from the other side.

Thanks for pointing this out, it's a hangover from adding our CDN, (content delivery network) that has improved the performance of the site. A CDN "caches" all of the images and other static files so the main site doesn't have to serve them hence the improvement in performamce.

In short the pictures are getting updated but the CDN isn't picking them up, we are looking into it right now and will at least have an answer fairly soon.

Thank you Nigel and Austin.

Nigel. I went on the create avatar site and it wants to know how many pixels the picture should be. What number do I put in here?

I put 85. Not sure if that's right or not.

Anyway, I noticed yesterday my avatar on here had changed to the one I was previously trying to upload the day before. Now it's gone back to Ozzy again.

Very strange.

whoo-hoo. Got an avatar. Thanks everyone. Not that I am from Cheshire or even fond of cats, but I do smile a lot!

Help ! - I can't tell if the "glitch" mentioned earlier is back or intermittent, but I've been trying to update our current avatar and although I can delete it from my profile, as soon as I save the new one, the current one comes back ?
Thanks in advance,

Ken.

When you have updated your avatar did you remember to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'Save'?
It's caught me out a couple of times

Yes, on every occasion - The "save" button is directly below the "update avatar" box.

However it's just updated !!

Thanks if it was something you did at your end.

Hi DD, I couldn't get your new avatar to appear either but I can see it on your profile, it's the one with one of your dogs turned more toward the camera right?
The forum content delivery network hasn't loaded the picture properly, I'll ask if anything can be done to resolve the problem in the morning.
