Glass Cooker Top

During a week's stay on a Cumbrian site last week, I stupidly put down the glass cover over the 4 burner hob and didn't notice that one of the burners was still lit. some time later there was an almighty bang, and the glass cover was in a thousand pieces all over the caravan. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a replacement. The cooker is a Maxol Monte Carlo 4000i model, but I would have thought any type of cover would do the job. It swings down from the rear of the cooker on a type of hinge. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise a divorce court might be my next trip!!!! The outfit is a Fleetwood Colchester 1500-eb2 1996

Sorry I can't help with where to get a new cover but am suprised as usually shutting the lid down cuts off the gas to the whole cooker.

Norman,

You could do a Google search for caravan breakers, you may be lucky or try a search including the make of the cooker/hob

David sorry I am confused(easily done) do you mean the lid on your cokker when does or does not shut off the supply,it has done every van I have had including my present van Abbey GTS Vogue, indeed some time back spent ages trying to get the oven to light then realised the lid was ever so slightly not fully back in the open position.

Hi Normal

Sorry to hear of your problem. Like other Forum members, I am surprised that the gas does not go out on closing the lid. However, the gas may have gone out but if the hob was still very hot (following usage) you might find that this was the cause of the problem.

If you contact Fleetwood (via email) you might find they are very helpful in this situation. They may even have a replacement to hand.

Good luck.

Ann

I meant that on our eccles Jewel the lid had to be fully up to light hob grill or oven and I was surprised they arent all like that.It is a check that I have to do when i install a cooker that closing glass lid cuts off the burners. It is not a requirement for metal lids which i rarely see now.It would seem it is not a requirment for caravans. However when i do my LPg I asked about caravans and I was told if i cover residential park homes that is all that is needed for touring vans as well which seems a bit weird, also boats are a different qualification.
