Glass Hob Lid

Hi,

Please don't laugh, but i put my glass hob lid down earlier today without first turning the gas hob off. Guess what happened 'it went bang and shattered'. I have a Bailey Ranger 6 620/6 2009. Any ideas on price for a new or second hand lid and where would i purchase one from. I live in Cheshire but don't mind travelling to pick it up.

Thanks
Alan.

hi Alan,
not laughing how unfortunate, but I can see how easily it would be to do, had a couple of near misses my self, including the time the wind shut it "rear window open" while cooking dinner only damage was a pan full of spuds on the floor.
what type of cooker is it ?? make and model will help find a source. most breakers do mail order however.

The hob lid is normally available from Bailey at around £54.00 plus carriage, but looking at their stock list, they do not have any in stock at the current time.

Sorry to hear about this. I thought the lid would have had a safety cut off device to stop it happening like on domestic ovens.
Now I have learnt something new.
Hope you get it sorted
Neil.

There is a safety cut out which shuts off the gas, but its the heat from the hob which shatters the glass.

A cheaper option to buying a new one from Bailey would be to take the measurements to a glassworks, explain what you want and they will cut a piece, grind & polish the edges and harden it for you.

i'm certainly not laughing Alan, its easily done.. we did exactly the same thing last summer on our Bailey Pageant Loire, but couldnt fine a second hand replacement from a breakers anywhere... in the end i gave in and bought a new one from Oxford caravan centre in Tiddington, and fitted it myself... it set me back just under £70 in VAT and delivery... we wont be making that mistake again in a hurry

hi
Done the same thing first time out in our bailey pageant. I dont think there is a safety cut out on these hobs. Had to get new one from bailey direct. hope i dont do it again. come to think of it we used it without the lid and the hinges were closed and gas still still worked.
