I have just sold the Forester after a long weekend away with the caravan. It is a stable tow car, very roomy, quiet and drives well, but I dont like its propensity for high revs on 10% inclines as it doesn't make for a relaxed towing experience, and as we travel to the south of France there are some grinding hills on the route. It wasn't bought as a tow car but we decided to buy a caravan last Autumn and see how we got on with the SJ. So after trying several dealerships for diesel or XT options which have equal torque outputs, the costs to change were prohibitive. So it is now Skoda Suberb estate with 4wd Haldex system and the infamous VAG "Defeat Device" for cheating emissions! But it pulls like a train. But I now have one very unhappy wife, and am quite sorry to see the SJ go as it is a really nice drive and so quiet compared to a diesel.
