Hi, has anyone ever stayed on the campsite at Goodwood. It is billed as a five star camp and I am thinking of going for the festival of speed. Any comments gratefully received.

Thanks Dave

I have been to FoS twice and stayed off site both times.

The first time I stayed at a C&CC site nearby (Slindon), but that had no toilets and as it is mainly portaloos at Goodwood, I would prefer full loos for the evening.

We stayed at Bognor CC site last year and while it was further, it had full loos and a shower block!!

If you are staying off site I would recommend staying west of Goodwood as the Chichester bypass becomes a nightmare and to the west there are a few lanes so you can avoid the A roads.

I'm sure once one of our learned members has had a chance to Google it they will be along to tell you how they have stayed there,a friend has raced there and a distant relative was the founder.

...It was founded by Lord March, I do not know him and I have never met him.

No races take place at The Festival of Speed ..it is a time trial, against the clock, up a hill.

The only campsite I know of at Goodwood is at the Horse Racing course; it is not that big and I have not stayed there.

I did not use Google ...I live nearby!

To my knowledge the campsite at Goodwood closed a few years ago. They may set up a temporary one just for the festival tho. There are quite a few camping and caravan sites in the area. West Wittering, Bognor Regis and Chichester are some of the areas and are quite close. Parking I beleive is at a premium at the festival. Book early it gets very busy.

Maybe someone should approach our pal Mr Clarkson to put in a good word to the organisers to create a temporary site.

Might be a nice little earner.....

... Since my post of Jan 20th, I have learned (as John has said) that the Horseracing course campsite has closed.

However there is a temporary site organised for the FoS

I believe it is near the Golf club and involves a short walk or tractor ride.

Costs for campsite only

4 people for 4 nights

We stayed at the horse racing course in 2007. The site was literally on the terrace adjacent to the stands and racing course but worked fine. On Saturday night there was lots of noise from the pavilion on the hill and then fireworks at midnight; we discovered that this was a party for the drivers and Lord March's guests. Our invitation must have been lost in the post.

The temporary site was closer to the Hill Climb site, starting adjacent to the Horse racing course and stretching towards the car parks, all on grass and no EHU at that time.

The major advantage of both these sites was the ability to miss the traffic queues which are always awful. We've been caught in those queues on two previous occasions and they were many miles and from memory well over an hour.

Hope you enjoy your trip.
