"Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more

expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take more and more

expensive credit, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will

lead to bankruptcy of the banks, which will have to be nationalized. The State will

then have to step in to save the banks which will eventually lead to communism."

--- Karl Marx, 1867 ---

To your question, Two very large Rums, and YES.

After myself and my wife just being made redundent again from our jobs and the chance of ever finding employment ever again where we live. Looking at life as a joke is the only thing stopping us both going out and throwing ourselfs under a train.

I don't get it? The state of affairs and communism? We are in a capitalistic recession, what on earth does communism have to do with it!

And on a brighter note. 10% of the workforce is now unemployed, but 50% of them seem to always be unemployed!

So we have however you want to look on it, 90 or 95% employment rates.

Its the half empty or half full glass syndrome, and it doesn't help, the situation, indeed it leads to panic, and the inevitable happens, because of peoples reactions. things get worse.

Reminds me of a few years back rumours of milk shortages, and what happened, too many people panicked buy, and indeed it lead to a shortage, for a weekend! The fears actually lead to the problem occurring!

Don't get me wrong the economy is bad, and more will loose their jobs, but how bad it gets is really down to us more so than anything else.

Whats wrong with communism? I'm not talking about Russia gone mad and the cold war and all that. I thought Communism and socialism were closely related? The principles are about all being equal and equal opportunities, etc. I would be entitled to the same healthcare as the man next door and so on. In 1900's in Russia this obviously led to massive corruption and those closest to the 'party' got all the benefits but surely now whereby government is transparent then that wouldn't happen, at least not on the same scale.

I often think about the mccarthyism (???) thing that went on in the states whereby 'communists' were hunted like dogs and their lives were destroyed. Surely they thought they were hunting russians or russian sympathisers rather than someone who believes in an ideal, even if that ideal could never be realised.

I guess that Communism has its place and could work.

If all of us approaching pension age had equal conditions and pension rights as Brown will get even after the losses he is responsible for many would opt for a communist state.

Oh how the tables have turned....

The current economic situation recognising that The Thatcher Years and on have basically wrecked this country - certainly for the working man.

Lovely to see Sadie quoting Marx - 'what goes around, comes around.'

Unfortunately most plebs confuse 'communism' (ie - what existed in the USSR) with 'socialism.' In my book, there's no comparison.

This is the first time, for a LONG time that the rich are feeling the pinch. Our system is set up to perpetuate the age-old system of rich and poor. Sadly, the poor (ie US!) seem to accept our lowly position...!!

Let's get a grip!

As for the Moderator's wish for a non-political state.... well, I ask again, if you don't want people to speak their minds, don't have a 'Chit Chat' section on the forum.

You've lost me Le Croc.

Sadie started an honest thread here. We cannot change history but I hope we can learn from it.

Are you sure you weren't looking in the mirror when you mentioned drugs??

I don't have any problem with people speaking their minds but as we know from past experience certain topics always without fail lead to members abusing or insulting each other on this forum.

This one looks as if it will be no exception with members insinuating that others are 'on drugs.'

There are some very good and suitable websites on the internet which support political debate but owing to the technical limitations under which this forum operates Practical Caravan Forum isn't one of them.

Hee hee.

If le croc wasn't on something he may have worked out that the quote is yet another internet hoax.

I bet old Carl wishes he had as he spins in his Hampstead plot!
