Hailstorm in Italy!!!!

Hello All,

We have just returned from Italy where we experienced the worst hailstorm ever, with hailstones the size of golf balls!! Unfortunately, this has caused SEVERE damage to our beloved caravan and when we returned home ( yesterday ), our local dealer told us that our caravan was more than likely to be a write off ( we are gutted! ). We have never had any dealings with insurance companies before, has anyone any advice etc for us or has anyone been through a similar experience to us? Any advice etc, would be welcome. I am very sorry to hear your story....we had just the same 3 years ago. Were you on Lake Garda by chance(we were)....it is quite well known for freak storms. At the time of the storm I was only too pleased that the 'stones' had not puctured the caravan or broken the large rooflights and therefore we were able to continue the holiday. Our 'van was only 2 years old, and the insunce company (Caravan Club) paid out for a full repair, which was new side and roof. We had to wait from Sept. to the following Feb for the job to be done but the 'van was only away about 10 days. Hope you can sort it out.

we have had the exact same problem-TWICE! the second time, after buying a new Swift, on it's first trip to France hailstones, the size of golfballs, landed on the roof and have made dents all over the roof. we got given a quote of

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate event.

Yes,it's happened to us too!!

We were on a site in Estartit, Costa Brava many years ago and were woken up in the night by a deafening noise that sounded like machine gun fire. All the pine needles were stripped off the trees, and the ground looked like there had been a snow storm.

We had to go to the police station in the morning to get written proof that it happened, for the insurance company, who paid

We are in the same situation. Just returned from Italy where we were caught in a hailstorm, caravan and car damaged considerably. Side and roof of caravan and all side of car ,roof and bonnet. In the process of going through insurances now.

We stayed at capalonga in bibione and the storm was on sat 23 august.

Thankyou for your reply. We know how you feel - we were there! It was awful wasn't it! We had a great time at Capolonga ( other than the storm ) and thought that it was a very good site. We are now in the process of filling out the claim form to the insurers - good luck with your claims. Best wishes, Jonah.
