Hi I have a Sprite Major 1985 and the handbrake sprocket has lost a few teeth and I can not set the handbrake. I was wondering is it possible to replace the sprocket with the broken teeth or would it be possible or safer to upgrade the handbrake.

My approach would be to change the whole handbrake assembly as if it is that age and worn you do not know what other parts may be nearing end of life.

That certainly looks as though it could solve half the problem but he's still left with a worn pawl. Bert's picture does certainly demonstrate the sort of trouble a little bit of grease would avoid.
