Anyone remember the 17% mortgage rate? We too had it tough hence way back in the 70s a caravan gave me annual holidays and weekends away with the family.

I accept costs have risen but to take a family of four abroad is a kings ransom today.

I suspect you are correct Clive.

There are probably fewer younger caravanners now . Yet during the school holidays sites are rammed with young families. Plus families like my son uses his FiL caravan and tug for some trips🙉 Good old bank of mum and dad.
But the family mini, Puma etc is not a real tug.
Thinking back to the halcyon days of the PCv rallies at Stowford Farm Meadows there were quite a few youngsters even amongst the Woosies . All gone .

We’re doomed🙉🙀
In those days Woosies were youngsters.

I well remember the 17% mortgage rates as we had just bought a small holding and cottage on Dartmoor and we’re maxed out on mortgage too. Inflation had dropped from a high of around 25% but was still double figures, and I had a salary freeze too. My wife had to work nights at a care home and dropped the car off in the morning with engine still running. Yet we enjoyed our time down there.

We have lived in our present house 49 years and also owned Caravans at our house before this house.. When we moved into our house, there were within 150 yards of us 7 caravans besides ours. Now we have the only Caravan, and there is 1 folding Caravan. I think this is a Thermometer of the times.

I believe there are multiple factors which have arrtibuted to the change in caravanning habits, far too many and varied to list in their entirety. I'm sure if you have other hobby. Interests you see similar trends, especially with younger people's browsing habits, such as accepting responses that have used AI, even when such answers cannot be true. Far too many algorithms fail to look for the truth, but rather assume the more often a particular point is mentioned it seems to earn truth points.

Many people can now go for a quick 4 days break to Europe for less than £200 , it sounds good. Others will rent a cottage in the lake District for much more for the same number of days. But it all depends on your wanting whilst away.

Getting back to the forum, my younger brother bought a caravan last summer I suggested he join PCf, his reply was, I have joined a Facebook page for Swift caravans. Unfortunately a lot of the answers to his questions are from very new caravan owners , and showing their brand new caravans and cars.
