Hello! Complete Newbie

Hello all.

Well, bitten the bullet, bought a caravan (v second hand) to try it all out from 30th. It's a 2001 Lunar Chateau, with a very strange tow socket, but that's for a different category.

Wife grew up caravan holidaying with her family of 6 and still has nightmares about the experiences. But now we have a 2 year old and I believe we're going to have some fantastic family outings together.

So, I'm looking forward to reading and learning, travelling and vanning.

All the very best to all
D

Welcome to the forum. If you need help there are plenty on here who will do their best.
Not sure what you mean by a strange tow socket. I think it will have an older version of the ALKO hitch stabiliser which clamps on using the red lever on the side once you have the towball inside the hitch head.
Once on site just ask if you need help as most people are very friendly.

Thanks Raywood. Good to know. Need to sort out storage, insurance, security etc but all fun. Plug I was querying was a 13 pin trailer truck Plug, which I can only find on a New Zealand website. It looks like a standard 7 pin but with 6 small pins around the edge.
Dealer says they will throw in an adapter, but also said they'd never seem it before. V curious.
Anyway, Wife is now buying caravan crockery and soft bloomin furnishings. So all is well.

Hello and welcome - hope you have lots of fun and exciting adventures in your van !
This is our second year of caravanning and we have enjoyed every minute of it - wish we'd done it years ago !
Hope your good lady has fun making it your own little palace on wheels πŸ™‚

Whatto and welcome to the forum. I'm sure we'll all do our very best to help out with any questions you have. Like your wife I've done it all my life but luckily I was the only one so not too cramped. I'm sure you'll have loads of fun with a toddler in tow. They love to help with all the jobs still at that age. Ours are now 13,16 & 18 so much less enthusiasm to help.

Thanks everyone, just been looking at making carpets for the van and looking at hitchlocks and motor movers.

Would people recommend motor movers?

Again, thank you for all your welcomes :cheer:

Didnt really need one with last van cos im brilliant at reversing πŸ˜› but since getting the new one , its to big to push and pull onto drive so its money well spent on the mover , excellent bit off kit so get one ! Plus itll gives you an extra bit of maneuverability when on a site that you will not be able to get reversing

Haha. Ok, I walked into that one. I'll scout ebay for a mover then. Else I'll be relying on my wife's directions, and she doesn't know her left and rights.

Hi welcome, I too am fairly new (4 months) best thing we did, wish we had done it when the children were young....you're going to have so much fun making family memories πŸ˜‰ Regards a motor mover, I managed to negotiate a PowrTouch Auto with my caravan and although I can reverse it fairly well, this takes all the hassle out of negotiating tight spots and is great if you are on a site where the view means placing the caravan nose in to the pitch πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ so from my point of view, I think they are a great addition. πŸ˜‰
