Hi there - bought our first caravan in October (2012 Sterling Eccles Sport 586) following a number of years camping with the wife and kids. Looking forward to reading the threads and hopefully following up with some questions from you seasoned veterans.

Welcome to the forum, hope all goes well with the van, what do you tow it with?

Hi John, thank you for the welcome. A Kia Sportage 2.0L diesel. Quite a comfy drive towing in all honesty. We bought the van as a private sale from a guy in Wakefield and drove it back to North Wales, no problem for the car 👍

Welcome to the Forum Andy. I guess you have tried a few of the great sites in North Wales?

Hi Clive, we’ve got them all booked up, which is a bit different to camping which we left a bit later in the year. Not so much demand for non electric tent pitches I suppose 😬

So we’ve booked everything around the kids holidays - Blakemere Chester in Feb, Golden Square Helmsley in April, Elm Cottage Cheshire in May, Park Foot Cumbria & Drummohr Edinburgh joint break in early July. So just need to book on more late July break which might be Oxon Hall in Shrewsbury. You could say we’re a bit OCD / organised, but saves any disappointment for the kids.

Have you got anything planned Clive? Is it viable to book last minute with a caravan?

Thanks Dusty. We’ve only done a couple in North Wales because the wife’s family are from the North East so we met up centrally with them to go camping.

Sounds as if you are well organised with some nice areas planned. Like you I tended to plan the outings as it enabled us to get the sites we wanted. Sold the caravan in 2021, so now do a mix of venues. Have a week in Forest of Dean in February in a lodge, and two weeks in Cumbria in June in a nice static on a farm. But still miss our caravan. 😢

Well provided you have a plan Clive that’s what’s important. Something nice to look forwards to, which gets us through the winter months 👍
