Hello everyone.

We've just taken delivery of a Swift Charisma and are totally new to this game.

The main reason for taking up this new hobby was when our little boy was taken ill while abroad and we just didn't get the medical attention we were used to and just wanted to be home (he's fine by the way). We subsequently took a holiday later in the year in the UK in a static and loved every minute so we considered this option but didn't want to get bored of the same location so here we are!

We've booked a trial day away in a couple of weeks to set up, erect awning etc but would really appreciate if anyone has (or can direct us to) a set up 'guide' or checklist to help us (well I mean me as my wife will be dealing with the kids no doubt!) along the way.

Hiya and welcome

When I first got the van I found the Caravan Club a great help, there is also the camping and caravan club. They can give you a check list etc for all your needs. Look out for the Caravan mags aswell these are full og tips. One more thing get your self a couple of tickets to the show in the NEC this week. My first pitch was full of surprises....... If you ask there will always be someone to give you a hand.

Good luck and ENJOY

Chipie,

Welcome to the world of caravaning.

The first time you and your wife put up the awning, first sit down and agree to disagree for the next 2 hours!!

Make sure you have 3 different colours of electricians tape. When the awning is erected mark the upright poles with one colour, the cross poles with another colour and the poles outwards from the caravan in another colour. This will make life much easier the next and subsequent times you erect the awning. If the awning is new then it most probably came with just plastic pegs. I would buy some metal pegs in case you pitch on a hardstanding pitch.

Some awning manufacturers web site have short videos showing you how to erect their awnings.
