Hi Nicholas - you will not regret it. Just think pull up on site in the wet or dark, down with the four corner steadies and hey presto in you go. No erecting tents in wind or rain, wet grass, etc. Within 15 minutes you could have the kettle on and enjoy a nice cup of tea/coffee in the snug and warmth of the van.

Fill the car with fuel, have a tow bar and electrics fitted and remove all clutter from in the car. Take the car to a weigh bridge and obtain the weight of the car. Using this figure will give you a good idea of the weight of the van you can tow using the 85% rule. This is only a guide and the manufacturer's figure could be less than this - check the car handbook. It is possible to go up to 100% weight off the car but it is not recommended, especially for newcomers. From your age it may be necessary for you to undertake a seperate driving test for towing as this came in for those who passed their test after 1996.

Yes, my cars weight is 1400kg and says i can tow 1375kg braked with gradients up to 12%

Now is that steep?

I have a class 2 hgv liscence which gives me BE on my driving liscence so i think that means the total gross weight of the caravan can not exceed the kerb weight of the tow car.
