Got the van back from storage today and was up on the roof giving it a clean

Should there be a "Top Hat" or something on top of the flue to the gas fire, it is currently open to the elements
Dont know if there should be something there or not and think I would have noticed something before,
your valued help would be appreciated.

There is normally a flue cowl similar to this on top Kev, it looks as though somebody has nicked your crown

On reflection think it was stolen, as when washing the side of the van there were stubborn scuffmarks on the side and had to use caravan cleaner and more elbow grease to remove

Rushed to local dealer and got a new one @ £9.95, need to chop some ones fingers off!! Theiving Gits!!

Now the uncertainty sets in
How long has it been off?
Is it full of water? (we have had torrential down pours down here)
Is the fire safe to use
Should I get it serviced?

Or on the practical side how do you remove the front of the fire, Truma Trumatic?
Took all the shelves out behind but cant get to the flue pipe, obviously wont take anything apart just hoping I can look up the pipe somehow. Is this possible?

To deal withthe flue cowl first, use some silicone sealant on the screw thread when fitting to lock it in place and make casual remoal more difficult.
As for the rest, with no cowl some rain will have entered the flue but will be evaporated off when you use the fire.

I would run the fire for 30 or 40 minutes, watch the flue top and see when the steam stops.
The fire is made of aluminium and the flue is Stainess Steel so no corrosion problems there.
If any water got as far as the burner area it would have dropped out without actually affecting the burner .

Thanks Damien for putting my mind at rest, have fitted the cowl but will do as you say with the silicone, can I use sikoflex as I have some or ordinary silicon sealant.
Will run the fire tomorrow, cheers.

Hi Kev,
either will do, its just to stop it vibrating loose and dropping off. or being "helped" off...........

There is a drain pipe cast into the heat exchanger at the flue connection, any water coming down the flue simple goes straight out through this pipe.
Truma prices went up 1.10.12 for the second time this year by as much as 15%, however the flue cowl caps price was reduced!
