Help got creosote specs on van!!!

Can anyone tell me how to get creosote specs off my caravan without stripping the paint??

I had the same problem...

got it off with auto glym tar and glue remover(i think thats what it was called)

Hi Gary

I would try a product like Autiglym tar and glue remover.

If this is not stong enough you can always use petrol.

WORDS of WARNING

do not smoke whilst doing this. Only do a very small area at a time and thourghly wash down with a good soap afterwards (fenwicks caravan cleaner). It is important not to let the petrol dry out in the sun on your paintwork.

After you have done this you will need to re wax the area.

Butter or olive oil will, with some rubbing, remove tar. Wether either will do the trick with creosote I don't know but it might be worth trying. At least neither should damage the paint finish.

Well I hope you have more success than I have!

Found 'something' (redish brown specks) on the van and consencious is it's creosote, Valeter says it's 'burnt' in so nothing will shift it?!!

I used paint brush cleaner and a kitchen tissue last time (NOT paint stripper)and it worked a treat. I also had a sponge and bucket to hand so after the black marks came off i could rinse the area.

Is it actually creosote: the nasty burning stuff that is now illegal? First: get rid of the cause at a proper dump site.

Then all the other advice sees right.

Thanks for your advice I tried several suggested methods and must say the only one that worked was petrol.

You do have to be very careful and only do a small area at a time washing with soapy water regulary
