Help - Route from South West of France to Benidorm

In early October my wife and I are setting off with the caravan for Spain for the winter.

We plan to visit friends just south of Bordeaux for a few days, then on to Benidorm.

Please can anyone suggest the best route from South of Bordeaux to Benidorm with stopover sites on the way.

We only really want to travel four or five hours each leg, as we are in no real hurry

I was planning to go via Pamplona, Zaragoza, down to Valencia, then down to Benidorm. But I can't seem to find a site for a stopover near Zaragoza.

Has anyone done this route, and are the roads ok?

Also lots of sites seem to close at the end of September.

Any suggestions please.

Hello Ken,

I have often used a route avoiding towns and cities, but you do have to use a lowish mountain pass and there are no paying motorways involved. Unfortunately we used to go nonstop so can't recommend any campsites, but there are a few in St-Jean-Pied-de-Port and one open all year on the Spanish side of the border.

You turn off the N10 after the Dax turning and go to St-Jean-Pied-de-Port, you then take the pass to Burguete and on to Aioz. You join the N121 at Urroz south of Pamplona and continue down passing Tudela and turn right on the A121 before Zaragoza to pass through La Almunia de Dona Godina and then on to Teruel and Valencia.

These roads are much better than they look on the map and are generally quiet. The road down to Valencia bypasses all towns.
