Hi folks,
I was just wondering whether anyone has a solution for fixed bed "roll together" essentially last september we bought our first fixed bed caravan a compass liberte air.
whilst we really love it there is just one problem, we find that we both end up rolling together in the middle of the bed ! it's a french bed with one piece latts and there is no central support, I can't seem to find any latts long enough to replace the current ones even if they have become a bit weak so i'm looking for alternative suggestions as to a solution.
does anybody have past experience of this ? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Neil

Friend of mine used a wooden strut and two lightweight scissor jacks.

I didn't have the 'roll on, roll off' problem.... although might have enjoyed it..... but the slats on my bed were too long and in danger of breaking when I climbed in.

I just made a wooden support to put underneath the centre of the slats to provide extra support.

Depends how handy you are.

Can you turn the slats upside down. So the curve is now to the ceiling?

Or run a strong timber longitudinal fixed to the top and bottom frame to stiffen the slats?

DO NOT, do is I did and buy, a memory foam mattress to fit our side bed, , which required a zip in the middle, this made us have the problem that you have, but at a cost of over £700.

thank you all for your very quick responses, I had thought about making a board from ply to sit on top of the laths for extra support and to spread the load, however not sure that that would work so I think i'll look at sorting out a support for down the centreline of the laths.
I was surprised to see that there wasn't any support there in the first place and that the laths were full width.
thanks again for the suggestions, much appreciated(y)

In our two caravans with side beds, a Sterling Jewel and our present Coachman 560 the slats have been across the beds.

these are across the bed, they are full width and curved upwards but I think because there is no central support they have become a bit weak. I've looked online regarding replacements but the only place I've found with the required lengths are charging £45 each! As a Yorkshireman that's not happening and to be honest I'm not sure it would solve the problem anyway, of course 20 years ago it wouldn't have been regarded as a problem!:ROFLMAO:

slats do curve the right way, I think the longitudal support is going to be the way to go either as you suggest in timber or steel box section. I'll have to have a measure up and see which is going to be best.

I can understand your not wanting to pay stupid Money for replacements,
And as an old boss of mine, a Yorkshire lad would say the Yorkshire War Cry " How Fxxxxxg Much".

Maybe the tyrapping a couple of plywood straps lengthwise, 6 inches from the centre ling of the bed might work, just giving an extra Strength to the bow.
