Hi We have been caravanning for about 6 years with a Bailey Ranger 550/6 using a Land Rover Defender to tow it. We hope to be changing the van for a Coachman Pastiche later this year.
We belong to the Caravan and Camping club and use their temporary holiday sites a lot as well as weekend meets. I am slowly building up the courage to take the van abroad.

Hi Sir Brian. So we have royalty on this forum. I feel highly honoured your maj :)
Before I bought a caravan I went to the NEC show. The person on the C&C club stand said the only difference between their club and the caravan club was that the CC use table cloths. Now this may be your cup of tea (Little pinky raised) being a Sir and all that but not for me. (The wife would start getting ideas above her station)
Seriously the only reason we joined the C&CC was that we like to go anywhere and at any time the fancy takes us. With the C&CC you don't book for any week end or holiday meets unlike the CC which have to be booked. (This is my understanding of the situation) We were going to join the CC to give us more options on places to go but have not found the need.
If we used the 5 van sites more I think we may be tempted to join the CC as their 5 van sites have better amenities in general than the C&CC sites

Dave.

Welcome to the forum, foggydave. :)

We don't have tablecloths on the Round Table. ;) I don't think you have to book CC sites in advance, but as they are generally busy it is best to. I'm not sure if there are any differences between the standards of 5 van sites between the two main clubs either.

Hi again Foggydave,

There is quite a bit of "royalty" on the Forum. Go to Woosie posts to see more.
Me and Lady G (Her Wifyship) are members of CC but want to expand our horizons a bit so thought C & CC might be worth a try. Been tin tenting for 34 years and nothing better.

Good to see a laugh a lot poster, nice one.

Welcome Foggydave

Both clubs have a great deal to offer for everyone.
Neither is snobbish or unfriendly.
A lot of us on here belong to both. Why don't you do like me and enjoy their sites and magazines?!
eg c&cc have a great site on the Isle of Skye.
Cc have some very good Highland ones.
Both have good car and caravan insurance schemes. Much better than the Independents.

Hello again Sir Brian. I have just posted on the Technical section and received an answer from Sir Baldrick. How does one acquire such titles? Are there special caravan type holy quests or do I just spend a night at the CC&C site at Sandringham and do a bit of weeding for the Queen?

With reference to the 'laugh a lot' I do have a web site where I write short amusing stories. www.foggydave.co.uk Most concerned with living with my wife and selling stuff on Ebay.

Hi Foggydave, welcome to the forum. :)
As Dustydog mentioned, both clubs have a lot to offer.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you as far as amenities on 5 van certified sites are concerned.
C&CC certified sites are more likely to have some sort of toilet and washing facilities because the C&CC allows tent campers to use their sites whereas the CC most certainly don't.
Tenters need washing and toilet facilities and the C&CC recognises this so certified sites are more likely to have these facilities than CC certified locations.
If you want to know more about the forum knights and dames with their titles Click Here for a brief rundown on the Woosies.
