Hobby 540 uk towing

I currently own a Hobby 540 uk caravan which i tow with a shogun 2.8 lwb,I am trying to find another alternative.I have looked at Volvo s80,Audi A6 amongst others and seem to be no further forward.The problem is the Hobby is a heavy van at 1500kg.All the car's i have listed the kerb weight is lower than i would expect.
 
I have the same van and the same car ( yet to pull with it though and I wonder how it is and whether there is any economy at all with petrol ? )

I know Mondeo 130 HP would be good having had that recommended to me time and again by people who know much more than me. As I am new to towing and will have my family in the back I wanted something big and heavy. Shogun seemed ideal.
