We have a top of the range recent Dyson which does work well around the home. However after using it for the past several months, OH dragged out the Miele Pet vacuum and did the carpets. Totally amazed at what it picked up although the Dyson had been used 2 days previous.
 
I see Lidl are selling a Silver crest cordless one. I have a corded version a few years old and it's fantastic. Hopefully this would be as well.
