Over August the bank holiday we went to a local centre's 80th birthday celebrations. 99 outfits attended and what did we do. the first evening we had a greyhound racing session, a film with silly named dogs running. We put money on and the juniors made over £200 for their chosen charity. At half time we were served hot dogs (no joke intended) and how they went down well. we took our own drinks. Opening ceremony on Saturday morning concluded with a fruit buffet. Never have I see such display!!! In the evening we had a singing duo and our own disco which gave us an excuse to dress up- champagne reception was the clue. Sunday evening another duo and a selection of desserts. Each evening we took our own drinks and snacks. There were day activities as well including for the children but we chose to do day trips. 3 nights caravanning, 3 nights entertainment and a champagne reception . all for £50 a couple!!!!! Everyone is welcome. On the rally field we had water and a place to empty the cassette so everyone uses their own facilities. What a nice way to meet like minded people.

Attended and run rallies so fully aware of the fun to be had and the work involved in running a good one. Not been able to do much the past few years because of illness, A levels and GCSE's but looking forward to starting again fairly soon. We're not in an owners club at the moment nor would we consider being at the moment so we'll carry on with CC and CCC when we re start. Temporary holiday sites are also great value and worth looking at as well. There are also lots of locally based clubs for people to think about along the way.

We go on on holiday rally in Cornwall so it's a pretty relaxed affair and no activities other than the welcome meet with cheese and cider and the flag the following friday. Considering it's on a full commercial site with use of all the facilities, it makes for a really cheap week. Not sure we'd bother with the more local ones at present; we like to do our own thing while we're away and we have a grumpy pre-teen in tow who is anti-social at the best of times.

Apart from rallies we also use the C&CC Temporary Holiday Sites, plenty around the country in some good locations, they run from 1 up to 8 weeks, so more outings with longer stays.

This one at a Sports Club, York (8 weeks) end of June to end of August and only a 20min walk into the city along the cycle path..

For those that don't want communal events, entertaining and collective feeding but prefer either their own or selected company there are rallies without these activities.
Each to their own but don't be put off trying rallying if the jamboree type event is not for you, there are alternatives.

We have used temporary holiday sites and joined one rally once in the days when we did not bother booking and got caught out. They all were very friendly but we generally tend to go our own way meeting different people.

That sounds great. Which Club is it with, what site and which Centre/Region?

We too have a pre teen, but she has learned that it's a holiday, so moods are not welcome, or it becomes even more boring for her. Tough love is required. But then we are not young parents, weren't stroppy teens and don't subscribe to the entitled generation give the kids everything ethos prevalent amongst her peers :p :p

The THS looks a good option. Do you have to be C&CC members?

Yes, The unit user does have to be but at THS you can join up with the C&CC.

Normal up to 5 day rallies also require membership by the unit user, though not those camping with them, but here joining the C&CC at the rally is not an option

Good to see such interest in this topic. A couple of further points, rallies are covered by exemption laws, and so unless held on a licensed site have to be organised by a club and you have to be a member. With C and CC temporary holiday sites and meets you generally do not have to book, (details will tell you). (If it's your first time you might mention it to the stewards so they can look after you.) CC (now CAMC) require you to pre-book but if it is very near the event date a phone call will often suffice. Again let them know it's your first time. Remember also that the arranged activities are not compulsory and no one will pressure you. However it is courteous to attend the welcome session and the final one, often called flag. Check for both whether you need to take cups with you- most probably will. My experience is that children, including moody teenagers, are very welcome and I have seen youngsters grow in all respects when they rally.
