Yesterday we went shopping at Lidl. Groceries scanned and we paid the bill. We waited for receipt and eventually asked for it and were told no receipt as it is now a digital receipt as we have the Lidl Plus app. Do you wait for the digital receipt to appear on your phone so that you can check it to make sure it is correct or do you leave the store? Once out of the store it becomes difficult to argue the point if you have been over charged pr paid for an item that you do not have in your basket. You cannot get any mobile signal in the store.

Next we had to return some items to M&S due to an issue with size. Both were ordered Online. We were told we could not change the items for a larger or smaller size as the items were not kept at the store and need to be ordered again Online. We had to use the new electronic return system. You enter the order number etc, stick the stuff in a bag and put it in a bin. You get a digital receipt sent to your email address so can only check that your return has been accepted. We felt very uncomfortable about this as previously you dealt with a human being, inputted your card and the refund was processed in front of you. Again even if I had email on my phone, no signal in the store. I was not the only one that had a hassle with the new digital returns policy and the poor staff member was rushing from one custom er to another to help them with processing the returns.

Such is the move to technology so we will no longer use the Lidl plus loyalty card when shopping and probably no longer buy Online from M&S unless it is for us only and we know the exact sizes. Hopefully the goods will not be faulty!

With your Lidl plus digital loyalty card when you open the QR code to scan, you can select digital recites only or normal.
Your not doing yourself any favours by not using it. Save 10% of your end of months bill.

I bought Herself an item of clothing from M&S online before Christmas.

We hadn't got time yesterday, but when we go next time, Herself will choose the clothing in the correct size and I'll pay for it.
Job done!

With your Lidl plus digital loyalty card when you open the QR code to scan, you can select digital recites only or normal.
Your not doing yourself any favours by not using it. Save 10% of your Nd of months bill.
Thanks as it is not clear on the app and now changed it, however at no time did we select digital receipts only? Not sure about the 10% "ND" part and savings?

We hadn't got time yesterday, but when we go next time, Herself will choose the clothing in the correct size and I'll pay for it.

That is how it used to be and also our preferred way when changing items however this move towards technology takes the friendly helpful face out of the equation.

Strange as my daughter has returned M&S online items via our local M&S Foodhall, sounds as if the procedure may have changed, not for the better.

Not sure about food and returns as ours was clothing. We never realised that South African clothing and shoe sizes were based on the American system and not the UK so when we ordered on sizes for the daughter's family we got it wrong. The UK system is one size smaller for shoes. We had the issue when we arrives nearly 30 years ago, but over time forgot.

Not sure about food and returns as ours was clothing. No, she has returned clothing and other non food items via the food hall. She rarely if ever buys food from M&S as she is continually hard up. :eek:

It's still the same personal service here, or at least it was yesterday afternoon, online purchase or digital receipt.

I also ordered something for my wife online and it was the wrong size off i went with the email receipt and went to the tills they got my item from there warehouse and refunded my card and then the sales woman got me the correct size and i paid for it again .

There was a period a couple of years ago when a number of local shops suddenly stopped offering a receipt with purchases, and they would look puzzled and offended when I just stood there waiting for it.

Things have changed and now it seems that most cashiers now ask if you want a receipt, which is ok by me.

But there is one other addaptoin to modern technology that I strongly object to, and that is when a supplier or delivery company ask me to sign for the receipt of something on a touch screen. I cannot for the life of me recreate my signature to my satisfaction on any of these devices. I would like to see a court case that hinges on the accuracy of such signatures.

I am coming to the point where I will refuse to use such a touch screen and I will insist on a paper document to sign on. - I wonder how I will get on.

For the most part you won’t get on very well. The couriers use the “ signed” tablet to notify their system of delivery. Having numerous bits of paper laying around the Transit doesn’t do that. I have asked fir a photo from one of ours and he took a shot of me holding the package. But wouldn’t include my face fir GPDR reasons. I tried to explain that I didn’t consider my face to be privately held data, as it goes everywhere with me and must be on thousands of cctv cameras by now. He saw the funny side snd explained that it was company policy not to include the face.

I am not sure, but I have been told that you can use a normal pen or pencil to sign on the electronic pad, however you are correct if you challenge the veracity of the signature. Most now seem to take a photo of your front door with parcel by the front door.

We have had photos of goods delivered to us and the photo clearly shows that it is not our door. We have also had the postman signing for registered documents because we are out and about. Not good is it is a passport or driving licence!

You can't win either way and it is then up to the consumer to prove that the goods were not delivered or perhaps the goods were returned. Regarding M&S receipt for one of the goods came to my phone 10 minutes after leaving the store and the other was sent to my home email address. In between the message and the email, I felt a bit uncomfortable as had no proof in my hands that I had returned the goods.

Even if you can use a normal pen or pencil on the electronic pads is not the problem, the problem is the surface is so hard and smooth the pen does no have the natural resistance of paper, and thus its far more difficult to control.

Alternatively, create another address which can be given to those you don't fully trust. If, in the future, that address gets spammed. just delete it and start again.

Can work for all sorts of things.

I know from experience that getting rid of your main email address is a real pain. And in the the mean time, friends may be getting spam redirected from you.

I recently bought an iPhone 14+, direct from Apple. I used their interest free terms. I received plenty of delivery emails and followed the strict instructions to be ready to sign for it.

Luckily I saw the delivery though the front door glass. There was a quick knock, no bell ringing.

My parcel was on the step, the van was gone. It was obviously a phone, and £1,300 worth.

Since then I have received text messaged both from Apple re the service and to ask if I has received it. And from Barclays re the payments.

The problem is I cannot reply to either of them because they are both to short-code addresses, which my supplier does not allow.

It makes me wonder what would have happened if it had been stolen, or I said I had not received it. But I dare say Apple could have disabled the handset.

I started doing this years ago, as part of a project I was doing I bought the domain name "<my surname>.org.uk", which came with almost unlimited email addresses - it isn't unlimited but the limit is so high I'll never reach it. So I have a variety of throwaway email addresses which I regularly purge.

Nowadays it's so easy to sign up for a free gmail email (or similar) that you don't need a domain name, although the way I do it means that whatever address an email is sent to, it ends up in my main email inbox, so the process is transparent to me unless I want to see what address a message was actually sent to so I can disable that address!

I was at Halfords the other day they ask me for my email address but i got £5 took of my bill so the front light of my mobility scooter came down i thought was great

For years I only had one email address, then junk became an issue and the hotmail filters, or Apple mail filters, or AppleMail blocking didn’t work very effectively. So I now use that one for any unimportant, non financial business. I have two other addresses from different providers. One I use for communicating with people, organisations I trust, the other for anything to do with finances. My security suite tells me if any contact on my three email addresses has been subject to a data breach, or if my email addresses have been touted on the dark web.

Apple now have a system which will do the hiding for you. It auto creates a new address to give out, but any replies still appear in your account. If you no longer want to deal with that person or organisation, just go to the list of generated emails and delete that one.
