Thinking of buying a hymer, either fixed end bed or fixed twin bed on single axle from Lowdham Any feedback or advice please? Also anyone know how good the gel batteries are? We do a lot of rallying with no mains hook up.

Hi Chris,

We own a Nova 570 GS 3 berth, brought it new last year from Lowdham's in Nottingham.Service was first class ie:- no pushy salesmen, gave us a good price on our trade in and the hand over was nearly 2 hours and they would not let us leave until we were totally satisfied with how things worked. They even let us play with the motor mover in their car park.

The build quality is superb, far Superior to our previous Avondale. You do however pay a penalty weight wise. The end bathroom is fantastic one of the most spacious I have seen.

The gel battery seems very good, it never goes below full charge when towing or hooked up to mains on site. Even when we used the van over the new year the charge never dropped with all the lights on (none of the lights are mains all are 12 volt) and if I remember correctly there are about 16 spots and 2 banks of rope lights. However I do believe the gel battery is about

Can't comment on the van but our experience of the dealer when still van shopping was less inspiring than Nidge's. I don't want pushy salesmen either but the level of disinterest was palpable. This was before we said that we wanted to trade in our elderly, but still very saleable, motorhome; at which point all traces of interest vanished altogether. "Someone will get back to you on a price". That was in January and we have yet to hear. We took our business elsewhere.

We have mixed reviews on Lowdhams, too. Good sales, but apart from one burning light, the after sales was dire. Heard good things about this place and bad, typical of most dealerships, I think.

I have bought 2 brand new hymer caravans, 2 isabella awnings from Lowdhams. No problems - until the table needed to be replaced. After 40k spend in 5 years there was no after sales service. No replies to emails, no loyalty from them to me. It is shocking.I have praised Lowdhams for their "serviec" but when push comes to shove they are rubbish. I am stuck for where to gbet my next Hymer - maybe I'll try their Notts branch. Service at Huddersfield is abysmal. Hymer through and through Mandy

I also had a terrible experience with Lowdhams when looking for an Eriba, I do not know how they stay in business.

If you are serious about a Hymer, look at purchasing in Belgium / Germany, you can save a packet.

I did buy an Eriba - from Campirama in Belgium,

Cheers

It would be funny if it wasn't such a pain in the butt - I have had a new table sent from Lowdhams - it came unmade , a top and bottom - and no screws. I had to send my old table back. Now i have no table or bed for the kids - see how long they take to sort that. I've only been waiting since January!! Mandy

I guess you have to take the good and the bad from each place yu shop, we were almost messed up royally by a none UK spec caravan, and were glad to have had the help from Lowdhams, they didn't now we were going to buy it, they gave us lots of information, which helped us not to make a mistake,we are now getting Hymer which is what we want, and we are going through the dealership in Nottingham, everyone there has been really helpful and they gave us a good price for our older caravan, when other dealerships we asked about on about a trade in they said sell it yourself, we wouldn't be interested.our old van is almost ready to be on it's last wheel, so not to complain, will see about after service, after we get or need it.

I have no direct experience of Lowdhams as yet but we are currently considering a new Hymer Caravan. Somebody mentioned buying from Germany on another forum but make sure you tell them exactly what you want as specs between English and European differ greatly.

It seems Hymer make many other layouts of Caravan that are not listed in the UK brochures, hence looking to Germany to purchase, I will try UK dealers first though.

As for Lowdhams, its like everything, theres always more of a story in bad service!

Figures say that If you recieve bad service you will tell 10 people, if you recieve good service you will tell only 3. A real shame but thats the UK for you, always a story in bad news!

I'm sure Lowdhams have more happy customers than disgruntled ones, which proves the above figures, otherwise they would not servive in business.

Speak as you find I have bought the last two vans from Lowdhams and in over 30 years of caravanning and buying vans they are heads and shoulders above all others I have dealt with,I could have bought my present van from a dealer 8 miles away but go 46 to Lowdhams says it all I think.I have always found them very attentive and more importantly knowledgable. They do not go all out for a sale at all costs and if some see that as disinterest I will give you a few dealers to visit where you will have trouble getting back to your car unless you buy!

Maybe I should add I refer to Lowdhams at Gunthorpe as I have no knowledge of the other newer branches.

We've had really good service from the Accessories Department at Lowdhams in Huddersfield when we had problems with our Swift - at the time they were our nearest Swift dealership. They ordered parts for us, phoned us when the parts arrived, and made sure that we had everything necessary to fit the bits ourselves. Couldn't fault them. Went back a couple of years later and ordered a replacement washbasin, after I split Tea Tree Oil in ours and ruined the surface - and again got excellent service.
