brought the santa fe 57 plate santa fe coming home this morning on a very busy duel carrigway car only done 5000 miles and cambelt has snapped engine broke and due for holiday in 2 weeks so santa fe not to good any one else had this problem
I had a belt snap some years ago., not a Hyundai. Turned out one of the pulleys had a sharp casting that had missed out on th e final clean up esulting in premature failure.
Make sure they check / change ALL the pulleys , tensioners etc.
oh my god gareth. glad you are all okay. mine is still okay and ive not heard of this problem before. there is a santa fe/hyundai forum and theres a guy on there who is a top technition maybe he could shed some light on it.
gareth did you have your towbar fitted by hyundai?. if so does it do the beeping when your indicators are on?.
hi, my towbar was fitted by an indepandant company that my local hyundai had arranged. before we went away a fuse had blown and the garae put another fuse in and said keep our eye on it. whilst we was away the fuse went again. we took it into the dealer where we was staying and to cut a long story short where the car had been drilled for the wiring no grommit had been fitted so the wiring was just chaffing away it got so hot that it melted into the sound dedaning and they told us we was lucky it was just a matter of time before it was have set on fire. and they scotch locked the wiring aswell. they took pics of it and gave us all the wiring back to show our garage so they can sort it.
the dealer put a new complete hyundai wiring loom in for us but when we came back for devon and moreton it didnt beep at all.
thanks to everyone who reply and thanks jo-anne for hoping we are all well yes we was ok but my towbar i fitted it my self very easy and wired the wiring up myself, and yes i do have a beeper fitted for the indicators. got car back yesterday and hyundai have said the cam belt casing had cracked and the plastic went inside and cut in to the belt luckily covered by 5 year warrenty 🙂 many thanks again
Got a Hyundai-fitted tow bar on our SF. Indicator repeater is very loud, deafens the dog in the back, good job there's the rear air conditioning for him as a trade-off or he'd say he wasn't going (dog gets the VIP treatment in our house).
Have put some insulation around the bleeper itself but it is still loud. Never forget the indicators are on when towing though.
graham hyundai head office told me that they think that i can buy an audio from the parts dept. they also told me that because its a plug and play and that the van elecs is just an extension of the car elecs then if a bulb on the van does go i would see it flashing quicker on the dash and would here it slightly like the normal sound of the indicator if you know what i mean but faster.
I think you're being mislead here. As far as I can ascertain, I'm no expert, the key issue is for there to be a fail safe system that tells specifically whether or not the caravan indicator is working independently of the towing vehicle. In the situation you describe it is not a true fail safe but a mere indication that an indicator on the car or caravan is malfunctioning. Whereas the majority of us have a buzzer or extra warning light that only works if teh caravan bulb is functioning correctly.
