I'm replacing the starter motor on my 1976 T2 campervan, do I have to replace the bush too?

I am worried about dropping the bush trying to get it out, and then maybe having to take the engine out. So hoping I don't have to. Any advice appreciated.

It's a long while since I worked on a VW engine. As it's a 76 model, does it have the type 4 "suitcase" engine or the Beetle type with the upright fan housing?

I remember my 73 2.0 type4 engined Devon camper was a really thirsty beast
I also remember a looong drive from Newquay to Leicester with a broken accelerator cable and having to hit the starter with a hammer every time we stopped because the solenoid was sticking on my 64 split screen canterbury pitt camper

Lots of videos on youtube but I can't post the links
