In The Awning

I am back again asking my silly questions.

Not sure how the awning goes up but is it straight forward or do I need instruction?

Also what would members recomend putting down in the awning to walk on?

Sorry for all these question but if I had been able to get away with the van as soon as we collected it I could have spoken to others on the caravan site.

No need to apologise for asking questions! That's what the forum is for. Putting up an awning is pretty straight forward but would advise colour coding your poles! Just follow the instructions with it and you won't go far wrong. We allow an hour for the full awning and a bit less for the porch (less pegs but lining up takes a bit longer to get it in exactly the right place. If you're using a full awning just run it through and put the central poles in place first then the ends and finlly the supporting ones between ends and middle if you have them.

As far as walking on, of you're going to be on grass then any good quality breatheable groundsheet will be fine, some put a tapulin under when on hard standing to prevent damage.

Hi Kevin
Tell us the make and model and I am sure one of us will have the full erection instructions.
The secret is identifying the poles positions and making sure you have sprayed the awning rail channel with silicon spray. It makes it so much easier to feed to awning through.

The awning is not known as a "divorce in a bag" for nothing. It does get easier, but that is with practice. When you arrive on site, set up your van and sit down with a cuppa.Arrive early enough so that there are several hours of daylight left. If you have a partner remind yourself and him/her that you love them very much. Then start on the awning. Take your time. You need to have the awning instructions handy. Lay out your poles and identify which goes where. Get the canvas through the awning channel then curse loudly when you realise that you have got it the wrong way up. Take it out and start again. This is pretty much the process for the whole awning. But it does not mean you are a failure or a bad person; just a first time vanner. We have all been there.
Good luck
