Indicator Problems

I picked up my new second hand 1999 Bailey Pageant Champagne the other day from the dealer and towed it home. We tested the lights before we left and all was OK. However after that when I used either indicator the dash flasher light went very quickly showing to me a bulb gone. However when I was able to check it out all indicator lights were working OK. The towcar is a Skoda Octavia Elegance 2.0 Estate.

I didn't have any of this with my old van

Were you careful to check that all indicators were working on the car as well, including the ones on your door mirrors if your car is fitted with them?

Now I've unhitched the van the car indicators are working OK so can only presume it was something to do with the matching up. The van only has indicators at the rear and they were working ok. We're using it again in a weeks time so will have chance to have another look at it. Just trying to get some ideas on what it might be. The car's in for service this week so will ask them as well.

...almost certainly poor electrical contact in the rearlight cluster.

Gain access to bulbs and lightly buff bulb contacts with emery cloth.

Then spray contacts with WD40 or equivalent including cluster earth wire connection if fitted.

If problem still persists replacing bulbs with new can solve the problem.

Did you have had the bar fitted by an independant towbar fitter, did they fit a bypass relay to the car?

If not this could account for the fast indicator flash as the canbus system on the vehicle will be overloaded and cause the bulb failure warning to come on.

Please get it checked as, if not remedied this will cause damage to your vehicle electrics and could invalidate your warranty!
