Insert Link puts link at start of post

I've tried a couple of times recently to use 'insert link' to put a link into existing text and both times it's put the link at the start of the (pre-existing) text. The first time I hadn't got very far into the post so worked around it but, just now, I tried to edit a link into text only for it to appear at the start of the post. Is it a 'feature' or am I doing something wrong?

As above. But for some links, I just paste the url and it goes in at the insertion point. This does not look good for some long urls. But some reformat themselves and give a representation of the web page.

This Amazon link, for example, is very very long, but when the post is saved it looks like this.

Right, back on the laptop and I've now figured-it-out. I've been trying to insert a link just using the cursor position and that puts the inserted link at the start of the post.
I need to put the word I want to use as a link in first then highlight it and add the URL.
Thanks all who replied.
Mick
