Insurance discounts for tracking system!

Hi all, we have ordered a new swift conqueror with a tracking system, i was quite disapointed when i went on line to get a insurance quote from the CC, to see they only offer a 10% discount for having a tracker!

completely agree, its a disgrace. We looked at tracking devices but with the crap discounts i was getting quoted i decided to leave it.

I asked the cc to justify only giving 10% and they could not despite the fact i pointed out that with the device they might have to pay for a bit of damage to a lock, without it they would have to pay out 17 grand, and all they offered me was
 
I agree. This is an ongoing subject with caravaners, a tracking device. From reading many articles and forums regarding getting a tracker, the general consensus seems to be "Don't bother". As you point out, they're expensive and the savings on insurance just isn't worth it. They're also not infallible. Several members have still lost their caravan despite having a tracker. And at least one member I know eventually had their caravan returned, wrecked! They said they'd rather not have seen it again and just got a new one from insurance. Instead, the insurance paid out for the repairs to the damage!

So yes, forget trackers. If a thief wants your caravan, no matter what security devices you use, they will have it. And bye bye caravan, thank you for the new one! ;-)

I upgraded to a Bailey Wyoming this wek and my existing Insurer CC also gave me a 10% discount for having the Tracker.

We had made enquiries with other Insurers over the last 3 months and it seems to me , if you have a twin axle, then a Tracker or similar device is mandatory to keep the theft cover in force.

In fact CC as well as others all told us the Wyoming, when left unattended must be secured with both wheel locks, hitch lock and Tracker. If you don't and it gets nicked then no claim!

Sign of the times I guess. I agree with Icemaker , the numbers don't add up!

I checked with the caravan club regarding our 2007 Swift Conqueror as I had done previously with our 2004 Wyoming and on both occassions was told "wheel locks not required--providing a hitchlock was used as well as the alarm. They did check the alarm had a tilt sensor.This was confirmed in the small print.

There is no discount for wheel locks, however I do get 15% discount for proof of my wife and i completing a caravan club towing course.Each time this has raised its head on this forum I have checked again with the club.

i have copied the comments on this thread and i am going to send them to every insurer, with names removed of course, maybee they will comment and realise that with the disgusting discounts the only losers are themselves.
 
If you go onto the Caravan Club web site and then into the insurance section, you can download a copy of the Policy.

It states that "If left unhitched for a period exceeding 8 hours it must be immobilised or protected against theft or unlawfull removal by use of one of the following".

A hitchlock or wheelclamp or heavy duty chain or immobiliser or alarm system.

Contacted the CC and adjusted my insurance yesterday to cover the Abbey Spectrum we have just picked up. I was also not happy at the 10% discount for the tracker, no real incentive to pay the yearly subscription after the first year which is free. Mind I also think the club could look at a discount if you keep your van in one of their own storage compounds.
 
One of the problems with tracking systems and insurance companies is user error. If you have to activate a system then it can always be a problem if you do not set the device up or turn it on. If the system was always tracking and would still keep a log of locations even when you had not set it to alert you....Then I thin Insurance companies would offer better deals. Insurance dicounts are better for products which have no user operation or do not rely on us to turn them on or fit them. But the other problem is the cost of the system as well. A
 
We got a really good doscount from Tourer Select for having a tracker fitted, brought our premium down from 750 to 400, a tracker is well worth it we have had 2 vans stolen, and we have also istalled anti ram posts on our driveway.
