Insurance in Europe

I intend to travel in Europe for a period of 2 years towing a caravan. I would like to know if anyone has done this before and where I can obtain car insurance (akin to fully comprehensive here in England ie for accidents/theft etc) similarly I would need caravan insurance. I will not be away from the caravan for more than 8 hours as I intend to travel around site seeing in the car and return to the caravan each evening. Any input would be greatly appriciated. Thank you

Sheila, the most common insurers for an annual green card are Saga and NFU. There are brokers who advertise similar but often there is some condition which is hard to meet.

The other thing to think of is going back to the UK for a car MOT, so you would be better getting a new one before you go.

There will not be a problem if the MOT runs out while abroad, only upon re-entry into the UK.

Hi

I stand to be corrected, but your insurance will be invalid if you do not have a current MOT.

Will you be able to arrange to keep the car taxed? Once, knowing I would be out of the country when my car tax expired, and going abroad before the reminder notice was issued, I had awful problems getting the next disc. All the tutting and sucking of teeth - you would think it was borderline criminal.

You could ask the insurer whether lack of mot would cause them to fail tho pay out on a claim. Better safe than sorry.
