Internal Alarm System - Annoying

Not sure about other makes but the alarm system on my van, a Sargent unit in a Swift has an internal sensor, presumably for movement as it has a piercing green LED that lights whenever it detects movement, whether the alarm is armed or not. Is there any reason not to knock out the LED and indeed can it be done without compromising the alarm system. Its particularly annoying at night as it even picks up movement when you turn over in bed and floods the whole caravan like the Hulks Parlour.

I would contact Sargent and get their advice but I do understand the problem. If you accidentally disarm the unit then it might invalidate the insurance although I am not sure how they can show it was off if you have a claim. The alternative might be just to switch it off and run the insurance without the alarm warranty, as I have no real faith in them.

Even disarming the alarm doesnt turn it off which is the problem. We never use the alarm when we are in the van but this thing is permanently on.

I presume the PIR is at floor level. If so, why not simply cover it at night?

We do that in summer, but during colder weather we cannot as it is right next to the butterly vent for the heater.

I have just been on to the Sargent website and found a very useful page which holds the full electrical schematics for Swift caravans from 20003 onwards

At night ours is covered by the dog , who sleeps there. But like at home the little lights are covered with black lecy tape.

In hotels with those annoying lights, plasters are the answer. It's also a good way to see how well cleaned the rooms are if there are still plasters over the lights!!! :p :p

What i dont understand is why it needs to flash when the alarm isnt armed, surely it should be in a dormant state at that point. If indeed it is correct, it is badly thought out. It isnt as if its a delicate green, its blindingly bright.
